I'm scared to take my diabetic friend on road trips...

My friend had type 1 diabetes and an insulin pump and even though I trust him to take care of himself and have no qualms with his condition (I rarely, if ever, have to accommodate him), I'm afraid to take him in road trips where a hospital is so far away. I've done it before with no issues but it makes me uneasy. IIN?

I can understand that. I wouldn't take anyone with that sort of reliance on medication on a long sail, either. Of course, we could be a thousand miles from help, so it's a bit different but the same mental anguish.

Your friendship is comendable especialy in this torrid times. No need to fear mate, just carry a spare of everything he's carying and grow a set of balls.Dont let a small thing such as anxiety dictate where and when you can hang out with your friend.

    • I don't but that doesn't make the wary feelings go away.

I really don't think you should worry. But if it makes you feel better, you could ask to make sure he brings a glucagon injector. In the unlikely event that he passed out from an insulin overdose, this is what you could use to save him.

    • Actually he brings one with him wherever he goes (he carries a little knapsack with everything he needs to get him through the day) and he has showed it to me. I have a lot of faith in his ability to take care of himself, but it doesn't stop me from worrying =/

If something goes wrong he could suffer severe brain damage.
