I'm sorta...scared of rubber bands and balloons...

Is it normal to be scared of rubber bands?
Or balloons?

All my friends handle with rubber bands really well, but I'm embarrassed to admit that rubber bands aren't really my thing. I think it's because they can be flicked and hurt someone, or when you stretch it to keep a lid on something, it can break and flick on your hand. I don't know. But I don't think that's why I'm scared of rubber bands, I mean, I'm not scared of hair ties, or the elastic types of hair ties, I'm just scared of rubber bands...

And balloons. I don't really like them. I think one reason is because they pop. And I'm scared it'll hurt.

So is it normal? Are anyone else scared of them? Please tell me... :/

Hi I have the same fear but it's the smell on my hands I cannot stand I will not even touch one or pick one up and if one accidentally touches me I have to wash that area thoroughly. They are just horrible and the thought of them wrapped into a ball makes my skin crawl.

My wife's puppy used to be afraid of rubber bands. She was always very curious about whatever I was doing. One day I was absentmindedly playing with a rubber band while watching TV and the dog was right in my face, so I put my hands out in front of me, pulled the rubber band back a little bit and let go. It snapped her on the nose, and we all know what that might feel like.

I know people are gonna be blasting me for that and telling me what an asshole I am, and that somebody should do that to me, etc. Well, it is what it is. I screwed up. I shouldn't have done it and I never did it again.

The funny thing is that ever afterward if I picked up anything and held it out in front of me pointing it at the dog she would start barking and backing away from me, even if I had nothing in my hands and just held them out in that position she would freak out.

Maybe you had some traumatic experience that you can't even remember from your early childhood that has had a lasting effect on you!

here is a remedy for your balloon phobia: get a balloon full of air... then sit on it... you will then see it doesn't hurt...

  • It's abnormal but it's not crippling your life so why worry?

Very normal. I'm the same way and know plenty others like us! It's just the thought of knowing the potential it has to be flicked, but you don't know when. Same with the balloon, you know it can easily pop at any second but not exactly when, so you get all crazy and it surprises you.
