"He who ask a question is a fool for five minutes he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever" =)

One thing that I have learned in this aspect is that if you have a question, you can almost always gaurantee that SOMEONE else has the same exact question. So don't be afraid to ask. You'll be surprised at how many other questions might spring from yours.

I feel the same way. So I think this is normal.

In college I asked a professor to re-word/repeat several hard-to-understand statements.

Professor ridiculed me, stating my lack of intellectual abilities was not his affair and said it was I who needed to improve; not his knowledge-dissemination abilities.

"Oh, okay," I uttered. Wondering what the major malfunction of that idiot was.

Oh how I reveled when, slowly, a sea of hands arose and the majority present also declared their non-comprehension.

And, that mass declaration was NOT merely to "defend" me... those others did NOT comprehend the professor either!!!!!!!

So, he reworded, re-stated the concept!!!!

Well, yes. I have debated PhDs and "won." As much as any argument/debate can be won.

Often best to merely smile and walk away.

Your projecting your self-image onto "everyone" else. YOU must think you're an idiot. If not, then it wouldn't matter.

Besides, try asking the question: Notice how many people start jotting down notes, even asking further questions about the topic. They, too, are afraid. Be the ice breaker. I always was.

Be courageous and put your hand up. Maybe someone in class was wondering about the same thing and if you ask a question, the others will get brave enough as well to ask.

Trust me, if you're really struggling you will regret not asking for help sooner. I know it's hard to do (it is for me because I'm very shy), but try staying back after class to ask for help.

i used to feel the same way, but then i realized people who ask questions are actually understanding it. It's because you're paying attention to the lesson and you're getting it more than the people who aren't asking questions.

  • This is definitely normal. Not so much fear as it is a shy/confidence thing though.

You are a very normal student. It's the student who thinks he knows all the answers (or does not care what others think) who is abnormal.

Try writing your question on a piece of paper and slip it to your teacher on the way in or out of class. If your teacher is worth anything, he/she will respect your shyness and anonymity.

It's normal to be embarrassed about asking a person for help. But sometimes "if its a personal problem" You need to keep it to yourself, or ask a psychiatrist. Life is very strange, you shouldn't be afraid to ask the "right" person for help, watch who you're dealing with.

I am exactly the same way. I feel uncomfortable with raising my hand to ask questions or something

I always always ALWAYS felt this way in class. I'm sure many others do to, imo it's completely normal to feel like this.

If your teacher asks "any questions?", ignore them and call them over to ask privately once everyone else is working. Either that or ask your friend
