I meet more annoying atheists than i do annoying christians

There are all these people saying how annoying Christians are and whatnot, but I've seen more annoying atheists bashing Christianity- specifically from this site- than I have annoying Christians forcing their beliefs on people.

IIN?

What do you expect? It's not like they have organized institutions to bitch about it in!

I'm only half serious. I've noticed too, I've been on both sides of the spectrum and believe me, I get considerably more flack for being religious. But that's kind of what happens when an institution fucks around for so long.

It's become socially acceptable to criticize authority and the church is one authority that has never taken well to criticism which makes them easier to criticize. It's the thrill of having a common enemy combined with the social stigma of talking about something as personal as religion. It's what happens when people attribute the parts to the entirety. Our society is becoming more empirically based and semantics have followed as well as the cultural changes.

Personally I don't feel the need to defend myself. Most of them have made up their minds about me, just like in every other form of bigotry. "Tolerance and peace but no one should think differently from me because I'm right!" And no, I am not taking responsibility for the bigotry of the church anymore than I will for the crimes of my father as old culture dictated I do.

It's not just an atheist problem. Take an asshole and give them a controversial subject to take a stand on and there ya have it.

Sometimes atheists are unable to grasp the fact that I don't belong to either camp. It's ridiculous. I'm not a Christian (or a follower of any of the monotheistic faiths), but it doesn't mean I don't believe that there are paths to spiritual enlightment. Yes, I would rather have Christian neighbours than these self-rightious idiots. Oh, ideological vegans are the worst, actually.

    • Where on earth do you live, the Bible Belt?

No one in my church has EVER said anything negative about gays. My pastor has said NOTHING about gays being an abomination.

Most atheists I know seem to be atheists because it's the "cool thing" to do.

Worse, I live in italy, home to the vatican city, birth place to the catholic church ( the most anciet branch of chistianity so with the oldest ideas)and lanch-pad for cristianety's spread across the world.
a few day ago a nun saw me and my friend holding hands and acting a bit "flirty" (we aren't realy a cupple, but we are both Bi and very close)
we saw her mutering agrily to her self. mostly It makes me laugh.

btw. I'm not an atheist because is't "cool" (I don't see how that can be possible), actualy when I started to lose my faith I fought back and tryed to keep it, then I realiesed I way trying to hang on to something that was allready gone. i'm happy with it now.

It seems that Christians are a little more polite towards non believers than Atheists are to believers. There is rude banter on both sides, but the rude Atheists make A LOT of generalizations about Christians. With that said, many Atheists are not rude, but the rude one's need to respects others' beliefs.

You have probably good neighbourhood or something. I'm atheist and I don't throw my opinions in other peoples face but every time when someone asks about my religion and I tell them they start trying to get me into their religion by saying I will go to hell and shit like that OR start thinking I'm a satanistic freak and never talk to me again.

  • Atheist here, I never even bring up what I believe until on Jesus freaks start throwing out God crap and rubbing it in my face.

I think it has to do with the type of community that you grow up in. I've never met an annoying Christian, not on the Internet, and certainly not in real life. But I can't even count the number of times that an atheist has tried to shove his/her opinion down my throat. It all depends on the people you grow up around.

I'm not willing to make any final judgements about any one demographic.

Where I live it's the opposite. They're allot of churches where I live and of you want to find something different you have to basically go the city. To be honest, I've probably never met a atheist in person but I have met Jews, Agnostics, and Christians. Out of all of them, allot of the Christians were very judgemental.
