I only change once a month

I only change my towel that I dry off with from the shower once a month. I see no need to do it more often. After all, I am just drying off a clean body and clean water or soap. Is this normal? How often should I change it? I think even one month is a bit short.

  • I'm sure you smell like mold.
Most people do not notice things they smell regularly.

    • Why mold? Everything is clean. My towel has no mold. And if I did, wouldn't I be sick?

      • Because the wet towel would develop mold. Thats what happens when something is damp for a while. After 3 days it should start smelling. Most people will not get sick from a slight bit of nontoxic mold. I do notice my towels smell when I don't change them often.

I think most people in the world are overly worried about germs. It's not exactly their fault - we're conditioned to be frightened of dirt and germs and nature, by advertisements and biology classes - but that doesn't make germphobia a rational response. Sure, maybe unwashed towels do carry germs but let's get real; if it hasn't killed you and no-one ever tells you you smell (people aren't that polite. If you consistently smell, someone is going to tell you.), you've got nothing to worry about.

I wash mine about once a week and try and dry it outdoors because I like scratchy towels, not soft ones.

Towels absorb skin cells, dust and other stuff which makes them less absorbent after a while, I find, and I love the smell of a fresh towel off the line, ditto bedding

I wash my towels once a week with my other laundry. I'm sure you're immune to the smell.

A month seems too long to me. I like using different towels...and besides bacteria is bound to build up, which is why dermatologists recommend using a clean towel for the face to avoid acne build up.

Ehhh I would change the towel like once a week. <.< I usually use two towels for my showers. One for my hair and one for my body. (My hair is so long that I can't use only one towel to dry both my hair and my body lol) I use the one for my hair 3-4 (Showers) times before changing it,...but I usually change my body towel everytime, or every other time I use it.

That's totally unnecessary! Why waste resources on such a silly practice?

You have a point. Due to limited resources, I don't bathe everyday. Only, if I have to go out somewhere and do something important. There's also a drainage problem in the tub. If my towel touches that nasty water that accumulates, it has to be washed.

Suggestion: take the top off your toilet cistern and turn off the tap that supplies water to it. Bucket out the bath water and pour into cistern, flush as usual, repeat ...... free toilet flushes!

I remember reading an article about changing towels. The doctor recommended changing the towel every 3 uses.

As long as you let the towel hang dry and it doesn't smell than you can go a good month without using a fresh one. But it's best if it's only you using the towel and you're not sharing it.

Sounds nasty but it depends how quickly the towel dries. Also how and where do you dry your towel? The least you could do is dry it via sunlight if you're sticking to your once a month routine.

There is no mold or bad smell, if you hang it up to dry...
