I only make $2500/mo and i invest $1000/mo in stocks

My take home pay is around $2500 a month and I only live on $1500 of that (no, I don't live with my parent; I live by myself in Southern California where the cost of living is quite high.) I'd rather save an extra $1000 a month so I can travel every few years and/or retire early.

I rarely buy clothes, cook almost everyday, and have a cheap smartphone plan. Plus, I've got no debt. Although I have enough saved up to buy a new BMW with cash, I'm still driving my 14 year old Honda which has been cheap to maintain and still works fine. The total value of all my possessions (when purchased, including my car) is probably less than $10,000 but I've spent more than $10,000 on an overseas trip to Europe a few years ago.

Do my spending priorities seem weird or normal?

    Sounds smart to me.

  • This actually isn't a bad idea. It is better taking a chance with the stock market this way rather than putting all of your gold into one pot at once. Does not seem unreasonable at all and might actually pay off very well in the future if you are making very well informed investments.

No, it is smart. You must be a Republican, as a Democrat would foolishly piss the money away!

It sounds like you've been doing fine. I just hope that you've made wise investments as the stock market can be very tricky.

I'm more of the "you can't take it with you" sort. I could die tomorrow and I damn well don't want a couple of million bucks in the bank when I go, that I could have used having fun when I was alive.
But to each his/her own. I can't fault you for doing it your way.
