I put hair in my ears.

I'm 27 now but since I was a little girl I've always liked to put hair in my ears. I like to twist it and just put it in my ear canal and sometimes I just pull out one hair at a time. I seem to do it more when I'm nervous but I always try to hide it. My friends don't even know I do it. I was just wondering if anyone else does this or if there's a name for it.

    OMGGGG!!!! (((((((group hug))))))) ...

I feel so at home right here on this page. I never thought that there were others like me. I can totally identify to almost everyone here... especially the ones who thought that nobody else could hear the noise. I am still convinced that no one can hear it... especially when ur in that zone an the hair is in the right spot and u keep pushing it in... WHO CARES WHO HEARS THE NOISE THEN!!! lol... I have to admit that I am becoming a bit brave by sneaking it in the public... esp when I'm on the train on my way to work and I'm reading a book. AHHHHHHHHHH THAT FEELING!! :)

I swear I probably started doing this while in my momma's belly because I've been doing it ever since I knew my name... I am 35! hehheheh
I've experienced different reactions to this habit, but in my memory is embedded 2 extremely opposite reactions... the first was when I was younger and my mom 'beat' me for doing it. The second is when I was in my late 20's, I was mad about something and as I sat on the couch watching tv and sulking; my ex-boyfriend who was sitting next to me calmly took my hair, twisted it and put it in my ears.... OMG! I could not believe it because I did not know that he knew of my habit... I wanted to marry him right then! Unfortunately…

I can’t imagine myself not being able to put hair in my ears… esp when I am studying… I LOVE IT! I NEED IT! WEIRD????

I don’t know anyone of you all… but I already love you all just for making me feel normal! WOOHOOOOO!!!! lol

My husband and I were laying in bed, he waved his hand during one of my comletely glazedover hair in ear poking sensations. I cant remember when I started this, and I was certainly very young. Im sure that when Im at home I do it and friends notice, but never say anything. I dont do it at work, so its clearly a relazation thing. I also feel like my ears are wet alot, so when I get that feeling... NOTHING WORKS BETTER than a hair swirl ear poking session. Is there a name for it? WEIRD!

I was in a mad frenzy, twisting and poking as I read all of these comments. I started doing this when I was very young. The fist memory of me doing it is at least 5 years old. I had a pretty tumultuous child hood. Many many issues to go into here, but I can say for sure, I stopped doing it somewhere in my thirties. I have resumed my habit in the last couple of months, and I am nearly 40. Again, going through a tough period. I admit it gives me great comfort. Except sometimes I find myself doing it to the point that it actually hurts, because I try to get as far into the ear canal as possible. When this happens, I try to poke only to the point where it's between acute discomfort, and just slightly uncomfortable. Does anyone else do this, or am I the only one that is too far gone? I'm so happy to have found others like me. I try to stop it by putting my hair in a pony tail, but when I am watching tv, or reading a book, I find myself undoing my pony tail so that I can poke hair in my ear. If I ever met someone who put my hair in my ear, I'd want to marry them too.

I've been reading other posts, and just wanted to ask, no one else can hear the noise right? It's just in one's own ear canal?

I do it at work too. And on the bus. I dont know if anyone is looking. I'm so obsessed with my activity that I dont care. I've tried to convince myself that maybe it doesn't look so weird?

Others can MOST DEFINITELY hear it. My fiancé can hear it, especially when I have a REALLY thick hair (I actually pull the hair out of my head one or two at a time) apparently the ones with the most texture and have the most thickness are my favorites and I can twirl for HOURS! It’s SOOO NICE knowing there are others out there who do this.

I believe I started in 3rd grade when I was 10. I’m 27 now. I’ve stopped before and started up again but I don’t remember when. My sister and grandma teased me one time when I was little. I never knew my fiancé knew about it. It’s almost obsessive for me at times now because if I’m super stressed out I have to feel the exact same thing in both ears. I actually had to pull over the other night because not feeling it equally on my right side was pissing me off🤣🤣 but it doesn’t bother him.

I actually used to SAVE the best hairs. Oh gosh. That’s embarrassing! Anyone else do that?

I also just recently witnessed my best friends daughter twirling her hair from her ponytail in her ear and she totally responded the same way I always used to and still do sometimes when (I feel) caught. I went over to her and whispered in her ear, “it’s ok, I do it too!” And she giggled.

But seriously, the feeling of it twisting/scratching my eardrum feels AMAZING! I’ve done it before to the point that it hurts and causes headaches and I have to stop. Almost like I’ve done it to the point my drum is raw.

It’s not so bad now that I’ve switched thyroid meds tho (those were literally making me crazy and not in control of my own feelings)

And now that I think about it and reading others posts, hmmm.

I learned about tinnitus in college and I found out that there is a form where it’s not just ringing, it can be other noises or “hearing voices” but not HEARING VOICES in the psychological form. You literally hear voices and talking/singing but it’s more distant, like you can’t decipher what’s being said.

I’ve realized recently that I’ve ALWAYS had ringing in my ears, but I’ve had it my entire life so it’s just been normal to me, I’ve just naturally tuned it out, but the voices part was insane to learn because I legitimately hear indecipherable conversations and songs/music. It doesn’t bother me at all, I just often have to take my earplugs out to find out if ts my ears doing their thing or if there’s a legit convo going on lol. I wonder if my hair twirling caused it.

OMG - I've never laughed so hard in my life! To read these comments is SO COMFORTING!!! I feel like people get my dearest SENSATION! I just love it! I do it when i'm driving, when i'm working, when i'm sitting around. I had No idea anyone could hear it!!! That's hillarious!!!

I like to lick the ends and then poke it in so it scratches my ear drum. I've always been afraid i could really hurt my ear or cause hearing loss - which would be a really stupid way to go deaf - but I JUST LOVE IT!!! It tickles and just gets in there in a way that's almost along the lines of being touched Just Right. it's deeply satisfying and i don't know why. It's sort of embarrassing, but i just do it anyway.

My son has super short hair, but he tickles under his fingernails and goes into this blissful state. When he was little he used to take my hair and tickle the corner of his eye with it. But he never tried to put it in his ear. If he only knew!

Oh man, this is a comfort. I'm not so weird after all - or at least there are other weird Ear Ticklers out there. What a comfort that is :)

This is awesome. I am 40 years old and I don't recall when it started. I kinda feel I started doing so when the tv was so loud and I couldn't fall asleep with my parents watching tv so loud. I also like the ends to get it pointy. Sometimes I catch myself doing it in public then stop. Every night I do it in both ears and cover my head with the pillow so they stay in. It is a comfort and yet I don't know why I do this and would love to know why. Thanks everyone for feeling free to open up about this. This is great.

I'm 43 yrs old now and I've been twiddling my hair and putting it in my ears for as long as I can remember. I do it in front of my long term partner and family who all think i'm bonkers. You go into a zone don't you, it's like you zone out, your body goes on hibernate and you get a glazed tranced like state on your face.

I only hair twiddle if tired or stressed and as I'm both at the mo, my hair is suddenly shorter on one side lol. I like bunching it up in my ear and pulling a strand out a a time lol

I’m absolutely dying right now… I’ve never met someone in my life that does this, even tried reddit and this forum is the only place I’ve found where others do this! I could cry I’m so happy! Does anyone else twist the hair on the inner part of their elbow too..? Or their lips? I feel so not alone but also so weird no one knows what this is exactly..

Oh my god this is amazing I thought I was just weird or something. I'm 20 and I've been doing this since I was about 12 or so. Around 14 I discovered if you twist up the hair first it works a lot better.I honestly thought I was alone in thisI try so hard not to do it in public but sometimes I can't resist and sneak it in I find myself doing it a lot when I'm stressed. It's funny cuz my friends always wonder what the scratchy noise is and if it hurts and I can't really explain it, but in a way it calms me down. My girlfriend hates it after a while cuz it gets annoying so I've been trying to stop but 8 year habit I don't think I can.

Ever since i was little when i was anxious or bored i would grab the little hairs around my ear and i would put it inside with my pinky and i would make a scratching motion with my pinky and the hair inside my ear until it made a crackling or like scratchy sound and then i would pull it out of my ears and sometimes i would feel the hair catch something in my ear and i would hear a small popping sound or feel a little pop. Sometimes it even stings a little bit. I can hear perfectly fine but i don't know why or how i developed this habit or how i even knew how to do it. When me and my husband first got together i made sure to never do it around him cause i was embarrassed and scared he would think i was weird. Well one night we were laying together and he did it to me. He grabbed my hair, put it in my ear with his finger, scratched it for a few seconds and pulled it out. I was In shock bc i never knew anyone else would do this. We never talked about it since bc idk how to bring it up. Am i weird??

This is crazy lol I never knew this was a thing. I truly thought I was the only one. How many other men are in here? Lol

I've read a ton of comments, majority seem to be from females (obviously with the longer hair it makes sense) but when my hair reaches a certain length it becomes perfect to twist up and push in my ear.

When it's the "perfect length", it's just long enough to get in my ear, but not long enough to fully keep itself in my ear, so hair slowly slides out on it's own, usually one by one, and it's truly like an addiction!! Lol

When I first get a haircut, my hair won't reach inside my ear, so that's when I "take a break" lol

I'm not sure where/when this started for me. When I was 3-5 years old, I had a terrible ear infection. I had this blanket that had really small stringy pieces of cloth-like fabric that hung off the edges which I found very pleasing to shove the stringy edges into my ear, slowly pulling it out, or allowing it to slowly come out on it's own, that's the first time I remember recognizing that I enjoyed that feeling.

When my ears start getting sore, that's when I know it's time for a haircut, where I can't put my hair in my ear, and get a break from it because if my hairs long enough, no matter how sore, I'm still doing it lol

I was just curious as to how many other men ALSO do this? Salute to my fellow hair twisting, ear shoving son of a guns.

I am 26 years old and I think I started when I was super young, like 8 years old. I remember kids in class through highschool looking at me like it was weird but I never stopped... I think it has a lot to do with my anxiety and it’s calming. People do weirder things, I think it’s harmless and soothing. Also, I think better when I’m doing it. My boyfriend never thought it was that weird, it’s kind of like playing with your hair... some people pick at their skin.. which I personally find disturbing but I honestly don’t think it’s that weird to put hair in your ear and take it out. I try very hard not to do it so much though, lol I do it everywhere and sometimes my dad or family member will tell me to stop hahahahaha! It’s a habit :) a calming, satisfactory habit

I'm scared. I'm 18 and have been sticking hair in my ears since I was a baby. I've always had ear trouble like ringing in my ears and infections. Lately, my ears ring way worst. I'm doing my best to stop putting hair in my ears even if it feels so good the hearing loss hurts.

Oh I’m now scared. I’ve been doing this too since I was maybe 3-4? It’s been more than a decade since then and I’m still doing it. I keep getting my ears throbbing in pain and sometimes I get ringing that makes me kind of deaf while it rings. So I’m obsessed with the feeling and I can’t stop it even though I know what consequences I would get. So uh earlier I’ve been doing it now my ears throbs in pain. Like rn. I had some ringing in my ears earlier. I had to google this and found this site. I need help :’)

I had an insane pain in my ear one time, went and had it checked out they thought it was a bug in my ear, gross! But nope, it was a ball of hair in my ear from sticking my hair in my ear! So weird! It definitely hurt really bad but I still stick my hair in my ear, it’s a weird but a very satisfying feeling that no one else understands!

That got us to all to do it to begin with?! All I know is yes it feels good I do it when I too am nervous or tired! I can honestly say I at times I do feel strange doing it but can't help it! I googled this because I was wondering if it was like OCD? It's nice to know I'm not alone :)

I also had this habbit of sticking my hair in and out and sometimes round and round inside ear canal. All my friends know of this habbit because I wasn't shy about it, I described it as an orgasm in my ear. Problem is that now I no longer get that same sensation (it's gone). I think I worn out my ears...:( I still do it all the time like I have no control but I find myself usually aggravated I'm not reaching my peak lol

If you want to get that sensation again stop doing it for a little and start doing it again. The reason why you don't have that same sensation is because your body has learned to have tolerance for it now so stopping and then starting can help. Hope this helped :)

I have also put hair in my ears since i was very little! I do it mostly when I'm tired, or bored. like in a long lecture, sometimes at a long stop light. I twist a lock of hair just right then push it in fairly far and actually work it back and forth a bit in the canal. It feels incredibly satisfying to me. Weird huh? Once in awhile I have hurt myself, but only momentarily . I stopped completely when i was five, due to a short haircut. Probably that would have been the end of it if it but for grandmother visiting when I was 7. She said ... "remember when you used to put your hair in your ear?" and asked me to show her how i "used to" do it! and i stated all over again. Been doing it ever since and now I'm 51 years old! i used to be very self conscious and would have died if anyone knew. One of the upsides of age is not caring so much about what others think. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone though!

It is satisfying to me to take my hair after i twirl it and insert the ends into my ear canal....but very gently, and only at the opening. Never do i insert it all the way. Amazing to see that there are others who do the same, and its not just me. It is wierd if you think about it...but i guess its my nerves and how i deal with it.

I actually find on the odd occasion if I have ear ache or a headache that is around my ear that hair twiddling really soothes it and stops the pain. Now whether it's a case of zoning out and not thinking of the ear/headache makes it go away is a question?

Can't tell you how pleasantly surprised I was to discover that I have a family out there. I am 57, female and have been doing this since at least the age of 3 although I have definitely refined my technique since then. I fall into the pulled single hair, twisted straight, sometimes knotted tip group. Oh, and I completely understand the eargasm!!! And, yes, it can definitely be heard by others. Have lately tried to switch to synthetic hair as I'm worrying about hair thining but I still prefer my own. Great to know I'm not alone.

Wow I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one who does this-like many of you, I assumed I was, as I have never seen any one else do this. My concern is that I absolutely cannot stop doing it-it's as if I have no control over when or how much I do it (I mean there are situations where I can stop myself if it seems incredibly inappropriate, but the urge is always there). Like a few people mentioned, I was wondering if this was a type of OCD or something. I love the sensation so much though, I don't actually want to stop doing it-just have some control over it I guess. Any thoughts? Anyone else who feels they have no control over twisting their hair in their ears? lol

I am SO happy that I found this. Im in University and Im studying the functions of the ear...and I was googled "putting hair in your ear" to see if it was harmful!
I cant remember not doing this as a little kid. I've been doing it for 20 years and I thought I was the only person who ever did it!

Yes. People can hear it. I never thought so and I've always ALWAYS done this since I was little. I thought it was just the sound in my ear. My daughter even started doing it and some times she will lay in my lap and ask me to stick her hair in her ear for her. Then… for the first time ever… I heard it. It does make that sound, out loud, and others can hear it. I don't care though. I love it.

I like to lick mine so its sharp and goes further down my ear canal! also twist it from the bottom, a small bit of hair maybe the size of a coffee straw and twist until it twists up onto itself… I call it a "ear hair twistie" go figure. Sometimes I forget to untwist when I'm done and have a hellacous knot then next time I brush my hair.

Wow!! This is so gnarly. I've been doing this since I was a kid. My grandma used to tickle my ear holes with Hardee's napkins. I started doing it with my cat's whiskers when they'd fall out. I know, I know, that's some dirty shit, but kids don't know any better. Hee hee. That since has transformed into me singling out beard hairs and twisting them to they come out. I'll get that rascal perfectly straight and twist, turn and maneuver it into the canal till that awesome scratching sound is all I can hear. That noise can b heard clearly cause my wife is like, "Dude, that shit is grossing me out!! STOP!!" I've now got my little boy having me get his ears too. Glad to know that I'm not the only weirdo in the world doing this. That noise is so righteous. Y'all b good

I have done this probably every day for the last 25 years plus (I am 27) I have pictures of me as a toddler doing it... I bloody love it, its so relaxing, I do find myself totally losing track of time when I'm sat on the sofa or lying in bed twiddling a hair in my ear - hours could easily pass.

I was sincerely too amused by the question to read the responses but...Really, I'm rather sure that's at least half normal. In fact, there are worse things to stick into one's ears as a nervous and/or compulsive reaction. It's funnier (& more genuine I suppose) because the hair in question is always there. It's not as though if you had a lucky penny that might end up getting lost. That's pretty funny and qutie heart-warming. It's like biting your lip. Or straightening your neck-tie. Or murdering a step-father.

Oh my gosh, thank you guys so much! I have been doing this ever since I was little too, and I thought I was a weird person. :)
Like jazzzgrl, "I twist a lock of hair just right then push it in fairly far and actually work it back and forth a bit in the canal. It feels incredibly satisfying to me."

i am truly amazed at how many people do this too. i'm 18, have OCD, and can't remember not doing this. i remember as a child i enjoyed the sensation of paint brush bristles too. i also like to do it in the corner of my eye, under my fingernails, on my cuticles and between my fingers. i sometimes can't help it in public and get really embarrassed. 'nice to know there are others like you :)

I have never heard of this habit of poking hair into the ear canal before today. The reason I even found this particular website is because I decided to look up a bad habit that my grand-daughter started doing at the age of 4 years old. She is now 7 years old & continues to do it even though she is well aware that this has become a bad habit and there can be future consequences with scarring if she persists.

She has shoulder length hair. I've noticed that she will do this, (Let's call it:) "Dabbing", habit during times of stress, boredom, and even when playing games on her I-Pad. She will take a pinch of her hair between her fingers, and then she will take the sharp ends of her hair and dab the area of skin directly beneath her nostrils, in the Philtral Ridge, or Medial Cleft area of her face. She does this so much and for so long that she actually has developed a red, swollen sore in the center of her philtral ridge. It looks like a cold sore under her nostrils.

We (Adults) all try to help her out with little reminders whenever we see her, "Dabbing", and she will discontinue doing it right away. But I have seen her go right back to dabbing within a few minutes of reminding her of it. Has anyone reading my comment ever heard of this habit, or are they aware of anyone who does this sort of thing? Cosmetically speaking, I think this type of bad habit would affect an older person much more than a younger child who doesn't tend to worry so much about their looks to others. But it does seem to embarrass her a little bit whenever an adult gently reminds her that she is dabbing and needs to quit. We are open to any sensible suggestions on how to get her to stop this bad habit. Thanks for reading. Take care, Bill N.

I do the exact same thing your granddaughter does. Along with putting hair in my hears and the corners of my eyes. I’m 20 now and I’ve started poking the ends of my hair right about my upper lip for probably a few years now and haven’t noticed any rashes yet but my skin does get a little irritated and I usually stop and move onto something else. I’ve found “better” alternatives such as poking the ends of my hair underneath my finger nails, in between fingers on the webbed parts or even on my wrists. I really don’t know how else to stop but keeping busy, maybe getting her a fidget cube or something might help.

Omg we should be BFFs.my boyfriend thinks I'm a little crazy because I try to show him by putting my hair tips under his nails but he just doesn't get it. In addition to all those places you put it, I like brushing my eyebrows, my face, and putting it between my teeth. So fun. Only my good friends know I do it and tell me it is loud, but I know they can't hear the crackling, just the brushy sound of the tips. My boyfriend even got me a paintbrush for Valentine's day one year so that if my hair was too short I could just use that. It is so soothing. It is such a problem sometimes that I constantly have dust in my ears that leaves the scratching sound and drives me crazy. My boyfriend gets frustrated when I try to get it out to no avail and says I should quit, but he doesn't understand what an addiction it is! I love this group and am so glad to know others understand. I think we just have a deeper awareness of sensation than others :)

I had a very traumatizing childhood and not so great events to follow. But now I have lead a very stable, amazing life...but I still do it! So apparently I just like the way it feels. I do it all time and I too sneak it in public. I leave my hair in for a while and what I desire most is pulling the hair out, I do it as slow as possible. It almost puts me at peace.

Holy hell, I can't believe I'm not the only one. I've been doing this ever since I had hair long enough to do it, probably 2 or 3 years old. Besides holding the hair with my hand, I like to rub a soft stuffed animal or pillow up and down against my ear while hair is in front of the ear. The rubbing causes the hair to go inside and it feels heavenly. I even catch myself sucking in my mouth while doing it, like I'm sucking on a pacifier. (But my mouth is closed with nothing in it, and I just suck.) It is entirely subconscious. I wish there was a name for this, I'd love to find a community of fellow ear ticklers. I registered for this site just to comment this. Hope someone finds it and responds, to let me know this forum isn't dead... Well, that's all, thank you internet for opportunities like these.

Hey fellow ear twirler. I happened to check in just curious if there were more people adding on more comments. Sine the last time I wrote which was 11 years ago. I can tell you I am now 45 and still doing it but I have defiantly toned it down. If I do it too much it now causes me to get vertigo.I do an exercise to fix it and then pay attention and try not to do it. Very very hard not to do it. It is nice knowing that there are others like us

Hello fellow ear ticklers. I've often wondered if there are others like me out there. You can all imagine, I'm sure, what a thrill it was to discover I have a little family out there. I'm 57, female, and I've been doing this since at least the age of 3; I have a family photo from that age as proof. I used to use a clump of hairs and tickle the outer ear. At some point a single hair must have found its way deeper into my ear and gave me what someone here has aptly called an eargasm and from then on I was hooked on the single hair technique. I did have a very stressful childhood and for many years thought I developed this habit as a soothing mechanism but I find that now, since my life is pretty stress free, I do it when I'm tired or bored. When I wore my hair long I never pulled it out as it wasn't necessary, but I've worn my hair too short for it to reach for many years and have had to pull it out (a single hair at a time)and go to town. Twisting the hair in my ear canal is very loud to me but it was only when my husband pointed out that he could hear it loud and clear that I realized others can hear it too. Happy tickling, ticklers.

The thinner the hair is the more intense it becomes. If you have not done it for a while is even better. Too much can be boring. Never use two hairs, can hurt. Both ears at the same time not good either. After you scratch your ears with your finger the surface is ready.
Make sure the hair is not curly. Saliva can help. Never met someone....

I don't know how old this post is, but it excited me SO MUCH when I saw it! So much that I even registered to this site so I could comment.

When I was a little girl I used to fold in my ear and rest my head on my pillow so it stayed folded. Then about a year after I started that I started putting hair in my ears.

Nowadays I'm 19 years old and have had this habit for about as long as I can remember. :) It's the ONLY way I get to sleep at night, and if my hair falls out while I sleep I instantly wake back up. I love putting my hair in my ears and then nuzzling it against my pillow. <3 Or sometimes during the day I put it in there secretly and just kind of pretend to be fiddling with my ears or something as I pull the hair out one by one.

Awh, I'm so glad I found other's that do this too! I no longer feel like I'm the only one. :)

This is soooo crazy! My mom yells at me when she hears me twirling hair in my ear. The rest of my family laughs and makes fun of me. I'm 37 and whe I was little I used to suck my fingers and whe I would do that I would rub my hair between my fingers, around my nose and in and around my ears. I have also had chronic ear infections since I was a baby. When I got older and my hair was long enough I would tickle my ear, somehow it made me feel better. I also have horrible allergies and my ears would get to itching something fierce and sometime all I had was my hair to take care of that itch. I have pulled out little pieces of hair while cleaning with a q-tip. Several years back I was doing when I had thar horrible itch & my bestfriend asked what I was doing. I was embarrassed but pretended like I wasn't and just told her my ear itches. Well she has the same ear itchy allergies and she couldn't do it herself so she let me try it. She is now hooked. I love it. It makes me happy. Oh, and yes, I have twirled out small pieces of earwax. Not very often and not very much because I am also addicted to cleaning my ears with q-tips. My dr's have always said I have the cleanest ares they have ever seen and when they look in there its like looking at a well polished pearl...they love to look at my eardrum...lol...well, that's my story. :-)

I almost shed a tear when I ran across this page! Google is such a great friend to me!

I have been doing this for as long as I can remember and have always been so embarrassed and ashamed by it. I'm 20 now and all these years of my life and I thought I was the only person who did this! I really wonder if there is a name for it or if its some form of OCD. Only a select few people know I do it and it's not something that gets talked about...at all!

I actually googled this to possibly find a solution. It's gotten to the point where I do it so much my ears are actually in pain for a good part of the day. I'm afraid that if I continue on doing it I could cause some serious damage and maybe up my chances of becoming deaf when I get older.

When I was little my parents told me that it caused ear infections but I haven't had an ear infection in probably 10 or more years. I'm still worried it might cause other complications though.

As satisfying and wonderful as it is, to me it is not worth my hearing, or worth being in pain all day.

Has anyone been successful in quitting and if so how did you do it?

Just like everyone else here I am amazed but SOOO glad that there are more of us out there. I have done this probably since I was 4, and I am now 31. I figured I started up when my parents started fighting before they got divorced, because it was so calming for me. I have tried on my own to stop, but can't go longer than a day (and even that day, I'll have to put my hair up in a bun or something). Its gotten worse over the years. I don't THINK anyone knows, and I try to hide it, because I'd be embarrassed if anyone knew. My mom thinks I tickle my outer ear with my hair soemtimes, and play with my hair, but I dont think she knows how much I do it. I used to use a bunch of hairs at a time, now its usually just one hair at a time. I'll even pull a thick hair out to do it, if I find one. So for a while I thought maybe it was a little bit of trichotillomania. I didn't realize that others could hear it!! EEK. I really wonder how obvious it is to other people sometimes. :S
I have never seen anyone else do it! Glad to know I'm not alone!! I just love the feel and sound. One bad thing is sometimes I just get in a "zone" and can't get other things done, because I'm focused on it so much!
Also since I was little I have liked to stick hair under my fingernails. I'd always scratch my doberman backwards to tickle under my nails with the hair.

I like to put hair under my nails too.. sometimes I do fabrics and sometimes I will twist my hair into a loop and put it under my nails. It's funny how we all have these little habits and we think we are all alone. I like to put hair in my ears when I'm driving.. sometimes I wonder if it's bad for my ears though.

How funny the same thing happened to me when I was younger. i forgot about it and someone reminded me and I have been doing it since and now I am 36 years old with 2 kids. I have a cousin that does it on the corner of her eye. I seem to do it when I am bored as well. I know when I do it too many times a day that I will get a sore throat soon after. But I still do it. I knew that I wasn't the only person in the whole world that did this. I think it might be also genetic. My sister and I also still use our baby blankets as well as our cousin. But only at night and she mainly uses it for touching and feeling it on her fingers. I like to rub the edges in between my finger nails. Other than those two things I do not indulge in drinking or smoking or any form of drugs.

I too put hair in my ears since i was perhaps 4-5 years old. I am 29 now ! i find it very soothing and i don't even realise when i start doing it. The activity is more when I am stressed or thinking of something. I just find it entertaining. I put the hair in my ears and twirl them till they hit d point where it pains. Pain is something that makes me realise that i am damaging my ear and i stop there.

But i am scared i might hamper my hearing. I try not to do it but i cant control it. Now a days my head starts paining on d side of the ear where i put my hair. I wonder how many pieces of hair will be there stuck inside my ears over years. I have kind of reduced the habit but it starts again.

Any solution or treatment on this problem? Are there any doctors here who can guide us?

Though it may seem fun for all of us putting hair in d ears I dont think we should be doing it. It could lead to serious damage.

I'm now 37 (holy crap, where has the time gone?!) and I've been sticking my hair in my ears and obsessively twirling my hair since I was knee high to a grasshopper. In my early 20's I was unofficially diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder after a trip to the E.R. with what I was SURE was a heart attack. Turns out it was my first of many panic attacks. When I was 30 I was officially diagnosed and was started on treatments and medications (until I found the right one for me) to help control my anxiety. I have since found out that my obsession with sticking my hair in my ears is a behavior they refer to as "stimming". Stimming, or Stims, is most noticed in people with autism but is also found in people who suffer from anxiety. Pacing, rocking back and forth, tapping your foot, hair twirling and, in our case, sticking our hair in our ears, are all Stims. I'm not saying that Stims are a direct sign of anxiety or autism but could have just started as a nervous twitch that you found comforting and just never dropped the habit.

I've been reading to find someone saying they use elastic to tickle the ear.

I can remember to messing with my ear at the age of 6 but at that time I used to put tiny balls of tissue in my ear then use hairpins or pencil to take it out. This went on until my mom notice because sometimes it takes so long for me to retrieve it that she started taking me to the doctor to get it taken out. Hated going to the doctor because it took a nurse and my mom to hold me down while the doctor uses a light to shine into the ear and a syringe to remove a piece of rubber from my ear.

Elastic became my ears best friend after I stop putting balls of tissue into them. I started pulling the little tiny elastic from the waist of my underwear. Omg.... I must say I destroyed so many underwear just to please my ear. I'm now 30 and my partner makes fun of me whenever he sees take my phone out its case. Yes I keep two pieces in my phone case so I never loose them. My mom bought two broad elastic waistband girdles for me over 10yrs ago and until this day I have 1 of the girdle which I pull the elastics from. I would twine the elastic between my thumb and pointer finger to tickle the ear. It surely is eargasim because it does feel good. It happen so often that it's hard to tell how many times a week it's done. Omg I could go on but I end here.

I too do this and am very worried like some on this thread and my family too would get onto me when I would start sticking my hair in my ear(never had a word for it just did it) always wondered if others did it also did it from a very young age since I was a toddler my mother has told me and would stick her hair in my ears stopped and then started would I visited my dad after not seeing him and he asked if I still did it. So yeah it feels AMUSING but feel it is harmful and wouldn't want my kids to start. Any suggestions or we could try to go to scientist with this page what ever is decided I just want to get help also like to clean out my ears as others have commented I don't have clean ears and like to pull out hair balls from my ears but no longer have satisfaction from doing so. Now I just do it out of habit.

I finally found people with the same issue. I have no clue why I do it. Gets worse in winter/nasal issues. Its like I imagine relieving all pressure in my head while removing all ear wax. F'ing insane. I thought I maybe had "obsessive compulsive" disorder, but doesn't fit. It has always been something in my life I wish someone could tell me why, and stop.. Apparently not many people have this problem. The only thing I can think of why I do this is had an ear infection when I was 12(apparently not common). I just wanted to get all the fluid out, but never ended. Weirdest think I did was find a thick hair on my girlfriends head that was perfect, done before. She finally asked me, "what the fuck are you doing." I'm screwed and insane.

Can't believe there's others who do it! I like to wet my hair then make it slightly stiff then wiggle it inside until it makes a funny crackling noise! Sometimes my ears get itchy so this unitches it too. It's probably dangerous in the long run but isn't everything :)

I bring some hair (around a lock of hair) near my ear..then i insert my finger in my ear in such a way that my hair also goes in..then i go round and round and up and down with my finger and as a result the hair is pushed in..it feels amazing..nearly orgasmic (for the ear)..it makes a lot of sound to me,but i dont know if other people can hear it or not..then i pull out the lock of hair carefully and i can see in the mirror that my hair has taken the shape of my ear canal.. :P

I seriously was shocked at how many people did this.. I honestly thought I was a goofy ball.. I am 43 years old and have done this as long as I can remember.. Im a freak about putting my hair deep in my ear.. I love how it makes me feel (relaxed mostly) I do it while driving.. and It can at times to me be as enjoyable as an orgasm. I especially enjoy it after I get my hair trimmed because its sharp and I like it to go down really far in my ear.. My newest thing is to put hair in my ear and then put ear plugs in and pull each hair out of my ear one at a time.. and I even from time to time make my husband allow me to put my hair in his ear..he at first thought I was a nut job but now when he is stressed he ask me to do it.. LOL.. and agrees that Its like an orgasm.. I got pulled over by the highway patrol one time because he said I was talking on my phone.. I had to assure him that I wasnt and told him that I have this fetish of putting hair in my ear.. the look on his face was classic. I do it all day ever day.. Its just my way of relaxing.. thank you for making me feel relaxed about this I seriously thought I was the only one..

I have never been more relieved to find a blog like this in my entire life. For the past 22 years I thought I was the only person in the world who twisted their hair and put it in their ear for pure satisfaction. I can remember sitting in first grade the first time I was bored and tried it. At that moment I recall I even tried to get the girl sitting next to me to try it it felt that great. my mother gave me hell my whole childhood cuz she saw me do it I thought I was sneaky but it's hard to sneak something like that. I have 2 kids and they see me do it and it has come so ordinary because I told them that it's a bad habit but I hide it from my signifigant other for the past 8 years, I have no idea if knows but I still try to hide it. I feel like 1 day I might go deaf but I still cannot stop myself on a daily basis. I probably can spend up to 3 hours a day just twisting my hair and putting it in there its a very bad habit and sometimes I feel like I need to see therapy. I am so glad I'm not the only 1 and I could share my story with you the comments are appreciated I'm 30 years old and I wish that 1 day I can't just stop and spare my hearing my weird crackling ears and a life without twisting hair...thank u

ok I am definitely stoked to see this thread. I meant to google this forever but thought it would be futile. I am currently twisting a hair in my ear and enjoying it thoroughly. However, as a male, I could twist it when I had shaggy/long hair but now I pull them off individually. Tge problem is is that it's making me lose fair and I am starting to have small bald spots on my sides. I cover it but for how long can I keep doing that? The other problem is that I feel I am wasting my day just sitting around twisting my hair in my ear, and it makes me very late to things all the time because it's quite addicting. I have OCD (quite bad) and add (I think) and I live and look incredibly normal (23, male, Caucasian) but I always feel a little like its a flaw of mine that I constantly hide because I like doing it but can't seem to stop... it really is interfering with my life.... Looks and socially.
    Any advice/help???

Well I don't know what to say about pulling individual hairs out.. Maybe you could save some of the ones you pull and reuse them so you're not pulling them out of your head? Maybe keep a small pill tin in your pocket to keep a few hairs in? Also, if you are wasting time twisting your hair you should make a strict rule for yourself that there will be no hair twisting if there's some place you need to be. You can then reward yourself later with a long twisting session. I don't know.. just some ideas to help you cope. I tend to do it a lot while I'm driving in the car but I have long hair so it's easy for me. Hope this helps!

I was sitting at home watching TV twisting a hair in my ear and deceided to google it to see if anybody else did this. I have always felt kinda like a little weirdo with an odd habbit, or almost a fetish. I have read posts and see that most people that do this are girls. Well I am a guy and the funny thing is that I shave my head so I don't even have any hair. My wife just smiles and says how cute it is when I ask her if I can have one of her straight hairs. Lol

omg! Finally!! I am 30 years old and have wondered and wondered for many years if i am the only one! I started when I was 11 and I have no idea why i started. My grandfather would catch me doing it and one of my friends did catch me before too and I was really embarrassed. What I do is pull out a hair from my head (a single strand) and then i twist a little knot at the end of that strand of hair. then I insert in my ear hoping the hair gets a good hook on a hard piece of ear wax so I can pull the sucker out. It rarely happens but once in a while it will do it. Anytime my ear aches I also have to twist hair in my ear. I can do it for hours on end too. it is such a mind numbing and pleasurable experience but i feel dirty after-ward. I always have to clean afterward to make myself feel better

I dont think others CAN hear it -- just try playing with your hair OUTSIDE your ear. You can't hear anything. Someone just said that to try to break us of the habit. As if!

WEIRD!

I used to do that when I was little, although I didn't stick it way down, just to the start. I liked the feeling to had when you took the hair out of your ears, like I was attracted to its stickiness. xD

I take a lock of soft hair and twirl it into a little kink and push in my ear and work it a little bit and rub my ear against a pillow when i do. I like to do it when im in bed. Agh, I always do it, my Nana did it too so maybe runs in the family! I did stop for a time in my early 20s but took it up again and can't stop and I'm 27. I don't do it in public, only at home but because my boyfriend never said anything when I sneaked a go, I started to do it all the time in front of him. 4 years later, he's never even commented. Only problem is, my hair breaks at the ends round the front, the main target area!
Other than Nana, I have never seen anyone in real life do it, though I caught a Big Brother contestant do it one time.
I do it all the time and cant sleep 'til I have hair in my ear! I'm weird I realise this, I have done it since my hair was long enough though so find it hard to stop without the actual need to!

I also have done this since I was little! I do it because I am tired or bored or just out of habit.
FYI - I thought nobody knew I did this until one time I was doing it and the noise that you can hear while your doing it, newsflash - other people can hear it as well. Once I was doing it in front of my sister and she said,"stop twisting" ha ha ha she could hear it! My roommate finally confronted me and I had to tell her! We were laughing so hard. It was so funny because I did not expect her to say she could hear it! Beware! LOL

Oh no! I didn't realize other people could hear it. Sometimes my mom will look over and say STOP IT! But I thought she just saw me doing it. Once she reached up and pulled the hair out of my ear real quick and that hurts! Thank you to everyone that answered! Now I know I'm not the only one! I tried looking it up thinking there would be a medical term for it but all I could find was stuff about old men growing hair in their ears lol.. Thanks!

i cannot believe i found people who do this! i am 43 and have been doing it since i was a kid. i sleep with a piece of velvet, stick my hair in my ear and stick the velvet under my nails and suck my thumb. it feels so good. that is how i go to sleep. i have tried to help others stick their hair in their ears or mine if their hair was too short. ive never seen anyone love it like i do. a good way to have an eargasm is to ride the bus with your hair in your ear and put your head against the window. and the window vibrates... woooohoooo!

I dont put hair in my ear but have done... instead I have a security blanket from when I was a little girl that has thin wooly fabric that I would twiddle in my ear to tickle.
Its the ONE thing that helps me relax and wind down.
I found hair sometimes could hurt because it was sharper and more coarse. Seriously get a baby pram blanket with tassle type fabric on the end.... its the way forward! xxx

Lol, I feel like I have been doing this all my life as well. Yesterday though, suddenly I got a pretty weird headache and some ringing in my ears and this ringing (more like whooshing) hasn't stopped till now (more than 24 hours now). I am really freaking out that I might have caused myself tinnitus and that I might slowly go crazy if this sound doesn't go away. Help. Has anyone of you talked to a doctor about this e.g. ear, nose, throat doctor?
As far as I know the eardrum hairs are super fragile and once they break, they don't recover, so you could go deaf. Therefore, indulging in this horrible, but pleasurable habit might cause you to go deaf I believe, since we are touching those tiny hairs with the hair's hairs .. omg why we so stupid .. I want to cry.

After doing this for nearly 40 years, I can’t believe I’ve not thought to Google it before. I twist my hair until it gets a little knot at the end and then stick that in my ear. The knot scratches around my ear canal and like the rest of you, it just feels great. I snap off the end of the knot too which means my hair never grows very long. I’m sure I must look like an idiot when I do it but I’ve been doing it so long, it’s very hard to resist. Sometimes I have to give my ears a rest because they get sore! I’m just glad to know there are others!!! Wanted to keep this thread going so people know we’re still out there.

Thanks Guys! I feel so at home here!!I thought I'm the only one who does this. I'm 20 years old and I have this habit since childhood. I do this when I'm nervous, when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm lost and when I'm travelling by bus. No one other than my family knows about this as I always tried to hide it from others. My parents tried to stop this by saying I'll get hearing loss if I continue to do this. They never allowed me to have long hair because of this. But I used to find out some other ways to do this. I am a student of Audiology and I know these things are not good for our ear but still I do this. This gives some kind of happiness. The reason my friends don't know about it is because I am scared of embarrassment. Even if you guys don't read this post, I finally could talk about it and thanks for that.

I'm like so glad that I found you all. I've been doing this my whole life. Never in a million years thought anybody else did this! I twirl it and then I like to get it like to a certain place and then use this index finger & thumb. Then I stick it in there. I love the crunchies the crunchy sounds for some reason to me is the ear orgasm. Sometimes I like to just stick it in there and leave it there and just listen to it crunch away, on its own. I can't believe you guys said eargasm that is flipping hilarious and true!! No we are definitely not alone! I lost my mom when I was a year old so I've always thought my thumb sucking hair twirling ear crunching was my way to comfort myself. Although I can't really say the age I started crunching it in my ear. 🤔 Must have been like seven or ten. It definitely had to be after the Dorothy Hamill haircut cuz, that was too short! Lol I also twirl my hair and snap it. I always thought it was better than a q-tip and that it was actually cleaning out the wax in my ear! Although I often wonder if I've got like this hairy wax ball deep down in there!! Lol I've been to the ENT and according to him my ears were perfectly fine. I noticed I definitely do it a lot more when I'm stressed so it definitely is a comfort thing for me. When I find myself just twirling and snapping and twirling and snapping then I know. hey, What's going on in my life? So in that way I think I use it as a trigger to help identify stressful situations. I don't know the long term of putting hair in my ears but I can tell you I'm 51 and I still do it and I can hear just fine!! To the parents that are all freaked out, it's called normal human behavior!! Oh my gosh my grandparents used to tie my hands up with mittens they used to put nasty stuff on my thumbs. None of it ever works because my human body knows what my human body needs and wants. I'm glad there's places like this because we shouldn't shame ourselves at all! I say shame on the doctors that freak out the parents for no damn reason!! So happy twirling and happy eargasms! Embrace your human self.

What a relief! I do not feel weird anymore!. I’m 37 years old and I've been putting my hair in my ears since childhood. The habit usually appears when I'm tired, or stressed, studding or reading or when I need to make important decisions…. it helps me to concentrate and to relax. I’ve always been afraid of causing myself an ear infection since I use leave-in hair products all the time, and dry shampoos which contain lot of chemicals. Not sure how this obsession could be stopped, probably by getting a very short haircut, but I love my long hair! I don’t see myself with short hair.

Of course I googled this because I have a sore ear which I am now worried is a result of my strange habit!! i had no idea there were so many others.
I'm 45 and have been doing this since I was about 9 - when my hair became long enough.
I too have to cough when I've gone too far!
Now for the real confession, if I ever become famous and this ended up in the tabloids I would be ashamed: after twirling my hair around my ears I smell it! TMI???? ALso, cats like it, my cats have tried to lick it.
My husband thinks I am insane - I sometimes offer him a smell, this is probably worse than using a friends long hair in times of short hair cuts when normally only a paint brush will do. I have also put my hair in his ear to offer him a glimpse of the levels of relaxation I experience, but he wasn't that enamoured!
Sometimes I get into an ear tickling frenzy.
This thread has really made me laugh! Especially the worry about being stopped by the police while driving thinking you have been using a mobile and having to explain one's odd habit!
    Hilarious.

Wow I am shocked (and so happy) to see that so many others do this as well. I have always thought I was some sort of freak for doing this! I have NEVER told anyone that I do this because I thought it was that weird. I am 31 years old and have been doing this since I've been a kid. I think I accidentally did it once and enjoyed the sensation of pulling out the hair a little at a time and have been doing it ever since! I typically twist the hair first, stick it in there and then wiggle my finger around like I'm scratching my ear. Then, pull it out very slowly, and try and get the wax out of my hair without ripping too much out (I know, kinda gross). But hey...I never have issues with ear wax or really ever need to clean them out with q-tips. I usually only do this if I get an ear tickle or that terrible itch that feels like it is between your throat and ear. Sometimes if I am stressed I will do it as well. I definitely go into a zonel...it's just so satisfying. It is like scratching a really itchy itch! I do this in front of others but I have long hair and always use an inner piece so I can hide it. I don't think anyone knows, but I have "scratched my ear" for a really long time and my husband just asks " Are you okay?!" LOL! Nobody has ever mentioned hearing the sound so I hope they don't ever hear it. This is seriously one of the only things that nobody knows about me so I'm hesitant to share it. It's my dirty little secret!!

    Add me to the list!
I'm 43 this year and I've been doing this since I had hair long enough to poke in my ear!
Curl it, twist it until it could on itself, pop in ear, use rest to make circle in small of ear... Etc etc etc
I make no secret I have a rather random habit.
It's calming and helps me relax and focus. I do it while driving hahahahaha
No idea why. Would love to know if there's some amazing scientifically proven pressure point inside the ear that a few lucky few have discovered...

I've done this since I've had hair! And before that I did it with the tail of a coon-skin cap! Until I was about 5 I would "play with my hair" and suck my thumb, as a kid I started poking it up my nose and twirling and poking around the edge of my lip and under the free edge of my fingernails, sin my teenage years I started poking it in the corners of my eye and on my wet-lids... that's typically my go to spot! I don't even realize I'm doing it sometimes! It's almost involuntary when I'm tired or anxious. Sometimes when I'm really stressed I will wake myself up at night by hair poking in my eyes or ears!
It has always driven my mother crazy! She will slap my hand down lol, my husband isn't phased anymore.
Only people who know me pretty well know what I'm doing, most people just think I'm messing with my eye-lashes/picking mascara off/pulling out my eye-lashes (cause all that's more widely accepted lol!)
Glad to know I'm not alone! I wish I knew a name for it or a cause or reason! I worry about the health of my eyes! I guess if starts really starting to damage anything I can always get a pixie cut ☺️

Just found videos on Youtube about Mimikaki in Japan, cleaning people's ears with sticks. They charge people to put sticks in their ears and clean out the wax and some people have it because they enjoy the sensation. The link I just posted didn't work but just search for Japanese ear cleaning.

Hi all, I knew that other people did this because my mother told me that she saw a girl in hospital doing it a long time ago, but never before have I found a community of people with this strange and lonely habit.

Like a lot of you I don't know when I started, except for it was when I was very young. My Mum used to tell me off and say I'd get earwigs in my ear. Then she cut my hair short to stop me, but during that time I just used to find other things to put in my ear like cotton wool. Then I'd be scared because sometimes the cotton wool would be so deep that I couldn't get it out. I'd use a toothpick to try and lever it out and hurt myself a few times, so it was better when my hair grew long again and I could return to that method.

Now I'm in my 40s and I've never managed to quit and don't really want to as like many of you I find that the eargasm sensation is amazing. I've googled it over the years and only found stories about people in the far east (it might have been Japan) who used some sort of modified chopstick to put in their ear and sometimes did it to each other! Not sure if that is still on the net. Also not sure that I could trust someone else to put something in my ear!

Anyway I told my doctor years ago and she wasn't that helpful or even that interested. She just said 'that's strange and I've never heard of that before,' but wasn't concerned either.

It seems like it's an impulse control disorder a bit like Trichotillomania (hair pulling), although it's also a kind of self-stimulatory action and it's comforting. I also sometimes rub the backs of my fingers against books that I'm reading, because it feels nice (and I've seen my Dad doing that too) and I like the feeling of hair in my nails too.

It's great not to be alone in this anymore. Someone should do a study of this, it seems that it's little known and not included with similar behaviours. Any biology students here?! :D

It's like sex in your ear: sometimes you go slow and just wiggle it around in the g-spot, sometimes you go for a furious pump for a bit, maybe you just let it marinate.

On occasion I'll have a threesome with both ears. But of course, a hair or two will go too deep every once in a while and it hurts.

28 years in the twisting game, cradle to the grave.

Omg I knew I didn't invent this...I look for the straightest hair and twist into position into my canal, and it's amazing, I'll hold out as long as I can until I'm forced to scratch it....I have had time where i touch my eardrum, lightly and with control, and it's just a crazy feeling, but I go months without being able to touch it again, and that almost the goal for me, but hitting that spot in the ear canal is orgasmic, I've never told anyone about this lol

Sometimes I do it to friends who don't know about the habit just to watch them get frustrated when they can't figure out where the scratchy sound is coming from. My girlfriend hates it after a while cuz it gets annoying so I've been trying to stop but 8 year habit I don't think I can.

Wow. Like most of you said, I'm so happy I found this! Been doing this for years. Now, I'm not really sure how old this thread is but I've always been concerned about this... Can putting my hair in my ear be dangerous? I mean, every now and again I'll poke my drum in a painful way which is usually when I stop doing it. I'm wondering if a hair would be enough to bust an eardrum thus making me deaf in one ear?

I can't believe I found this thread! I've been doing this my whole life and no intention of ever stopping I love the sensation of the hair in the ear canal. I also do it lots of different ways but my favourite is just one single hair and if it gets a bit sticky and tugs on the downy hair that's inside the ear canal... That feeling!

I'm 35 and female by the way. I've noticed that a few people said they started it after a traumatic experience or stressful childhoods, I never had a stressful childhood so I'm not sure why I started. I'm a mental health nurse and I do believe it's a form of OCD although I would never have it formally assessed lol.

Did anyone ever make a Facebook page for people that do it? I saw it mentioned in an earlier comment... I'd love to join it if so

Wow! I've been doing this since I was a baby, and I'm 26 now. I thought I was the only one in the world who did this! I can't believe I came across this page.

    Hello everybody,

I´ve never found a german page about this topic - is this a local thing :P? Doesn´t seem so, because i do this, too since I was a child (I´m 25 now). I did this when i was i think 4 or 5 year old with a couple of hair -then i stopped it or forgot it- for over 12 years and then i start it again. And yes other people can hear this! A few people asked me "What is this strange noise?" - although they didn´t see what i was doing. I definetely want to stop this, because I´ve the feeling that my hair breaks. Do you´ve a tipp for me?

No it's not dirty! Stop cleaning your house and just enjoy. We could be snorting cocaine for heaven's sake! Others just haven't discovered what we have, or everyone would do it. Bliss.

hey this is sunflower again, just had a wonderful night of ear poking. It is so amazing and I'm so glad that I now have somewhere to go to actually talk about it! Ear poking helps when I have headaches. I don't know why, but it does. I feel like when I poke deep within my ear canal, it touches some nerves or puts pressure and fights the pain of the headache somehow. I am the type of ear poker that likes to poke really deep into my ear, but never want to touch the ear drum. Usually I go as close as to the ear drum as I can get it. That is why I like to have hard wax in my ear for my ear poking sessions, because it blocks me from actually damaging my ear drum. Anyway, by ya'll.

Wow, this post is amazing, and the amount of people who actually does this is really a surprise for me! I've been sticking hair into my ear as long as I can remember! This thread made me so happy and warm inside, since I had no idea of that there were so many people like me. This is probably my first time talking about it too. However, I had no idea that the scratching sound could be heard! It feels awkward because I've done it in public a lot of times, and next to people I know. As they've nrver said anything about it, I guess that they simply ignored it, or got used to it quickly.

Yes, people can hear the scratching sound, I have been caught before. It's because you have hard wax in your ear when you scratch the hair against it, so it makes a lot of sound. I was shocked as well that people could hear it.

I can not believe that I have finally found other people with this habit! I am a 17 year old female and I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. I normally do it when I'm tired, or while I'm watching tv. As a kid I sucked my thumb, and twirled my hair around in my ear. To this day, I still do both as I'm falling asleep. Most nights, I wake up to the sound of twirling my hair in my ear. I do it in my sleep!!! Lol. I wrap it around my finger and twist it up just right, and stick it into my ear canal as far as I can stand it. I rub it around my ear, then take the hair out, re twist it and do it all over again. I thought I was the only person in the world who did this, and I'm so happy that I'm not the only one. But I also have another weird habit that I do along with it. Sometimes when I twirl my hair I get knots in my hair, and I rip the knots out of my head. Not just a couple strands at a time, I mean I rip it out no matter if it's 10 strands of hair or 20. I remember as a child I would always get in trouble because they would find hair wads underneath my mat at school. Lol!!! Happy eargasms everybody! Thanks for making me see I'm normal! If anybody finds a name for this, post it on here. I have yet to find one!!

Hey, this is sunflower again. I left a message on this thread a few months ago.

I was wondering, do all of you ear pokers pull out a piece of hair from your head and then insert the hair into your ears? I do. I pull out a strand of hair, twist real good, I even twist a ball at the end of it, and insert into my ear and start poking. Does anyone else do this besides me? Also, I can do this for hours at a time. I can literally pull out about fifteen strands by the end of my ear poking session.

Also, does anyone else feel dirty after they do this? I do. I have to take a shower after I do it and clean the house, to rid myself of the dirtiness that I feel. I know , it's crazy...but I need to know that I'm not alone. Thank you guys.

      Hi!

I do completely the same thing as yourself and am glad to hear that I'm not alone!

As I pull strands of my hair out at a time I have now been left with bald patches.
My family made me go to a doctor who diagnosed me with Trichtotillamania - the OCD of pulling out your own hair. They still can't explain the tickling of the ear but I have tried everything and cannot stop it!!!

Omg... im so happy that I can share my secret! Ive done the ear since birth my mum says I came out fingers in mouth (which I still do) and hands in hair twirling ear poking position! What a great relaxing feeling this weird habit gives us! Although I may be the first here to have real deafness through it? Im almost completly deaf in my right ear but
Im not sure if its because there is heredity deafness in my family or its the ear poking. Imainly do it when im tired or stessed and every night without fail in bed or I cant sleep if I dont. My boyfriend thinks im a huge weirdo seens as I also suck my two fingers but I dont care as I just love the feeling I get when I prod deep in my ear with my hair! I have recently taken up nail prodding too although pushing hair down your nails does no good to ur nail beds! So glad I found im not the only one who does this :-)

As everyone has said, so glad to hear I'm not alone! I have one weird thing to add it it though. Sometimes I'd stick my hair in my nose too. I've done some searching into this and especially from seeing the comments, I'm pretty sure this is a habit developed to comfort oneself. I.E. sadly most people who have it had rough childhoods (divorces, beatings, family feuds that ended in mental scars or physical) so it's probably an OCD as well as some others said (I have a lot of them, and this would be the hardest to break) I love it though, it's as many said an ear-gasm, lol. And as others said I also try to get hard ear wax once in a while out with either hair or an object like it (just did that a few hours ago. I usually don't do that often since it's not good to remove wax too much.) I've taken a liking to using just one thick or textured (wavy or non-straight, lol) hair and just twirling it or pushing in and pulling out slowly. Love the feel, it's calming and I do it when bored. I also lick it sometimes to make it hard as the feeling gets a bit stronger (gosh, that does make it almost sound like ear sex, LOLOL)

I also apparently make a dumb face when I do it and my mom and I had a good laugh when she asked if I still do that because I made the face while doing it. The face is brought about by me curling my tongue over itself and letting my jaw slack in consequence. I found out I also do that when I'm not paying attention. Apparently that's comforting too. Probably because I don't like the feel of my tongue moving all the time and folding it keeps it in place xD Very glad that anyone I told about my habit (except my old preschool (my teacher at the time threatened to chop off all my hair)) was perfectly accepting or even found it cute, like my boyfriend does. I still have an old Easter bunny present and I used to stick her floppy ears in my nose and ear. Above all though, I really hope this isn't a damaging habit because it would be the hardest thing to break. It's become so ingrained in my life and it's almost therapeutic for me as it seems to be for everyone on here, lol.

Oh and yes, others can hear it. I've gotten yelled at many-a-time because they didn't know how I was making that noise, lol. I even scared my boyfriend with the sound. Rub a bunch of hairs on your hand. It does make noise. Probably doubly so if it's rubbing against wax as it sticky things make noise when touched or prodded.

Like everyone has already mentioned, I am so happy to find others who do the same thing! I have been doing this since I was about 6 or 7 years old and I am 23 now. I generally take one hair, preferably on the coarser side, and stuff it into my ear until I hear a crackling noise. Then -- and this is the best part -- I slowly pull it out, savoring the feeling of the hair dragging against the ear canal and that incredible, soothing noise and anticipating the final POP once I pull it out. Sometimes, I pull the hair out quickly. It works best when my ear is completely dry, and not moist or wet from the shower etc. It also works best when my hands are cold.

I do this habit excessively, especially when I'm stressed...which is always. I want to stop, but I honestly just dont know how. I love the feeling and it gives me solace!

Wow! All the comments. I'm 43 & male. I rediscovered doing this about a year ago and can do it for a long time mostly to procrastinate. I finally told my councelor. I almost didn't. Never told anyone about it before. I could barely speak when trying to tell her, but I knew I should. Im glad I did as now I am going to show her this post! I think she will enjoy reading it. BTW, my hair is way to short now but i use strands from a feather. Works great! Thank everyone here!

I LOVE doing this and have done for years. I like to suck on a lolly then put a few strands of hair in my mouth so they will get sticky and then dry off becoming very firm. I then love the sensation of just twirling the hair in my ear. I just do it when I'm alone but it's so comforting.

i did this for many years. The pleasure is/was indescribably wonderful. It was difficult to clarify for even my closest friends what pleasure this gave me.

Really, the only reason I stopped, is I chose to have a short haircut.

I have been Googling for this off and on, and lo and behold, there are others. Somehow it feels good knowing that there are others.

I've done the same thing since I was a baby. Except when I was little I used my favorite long haired stuffed animal bear. I never knew so many people alike! Now I just take a single strand, and twist away. I literally do it under the same - when I'm tired and nervous mostly. Subconsciously its 2nd nature, it has been for the 22 yrs. Haha it really is comforting! No shame here, although my boyfriend tells me its taking my hearing lol I think its just selective ;)

Oh my God, I've done this since I was a little baby and just like everyone else I didn't realise how many people did it.

I suck my thumb and then curl my hair up and put it in my ear, not far inside, just in the first bit, and then I lie on it and go to sleep. I wind all my hair up in a ball tight and put it in my ear so it stays in place. I do it all the time whenever I feel tired, and sometimes I catch myself doing it in the morning at work, luckily I'm usually by myself!

For all those of you who feel self conscious about this I've never hid it from anybody, none of my ex boyfriends have ever said anything, or my boyfriend now, and if they ever did I would just explain it is something I've done since I was very small.

It is extremely comforting, and I never realised people could hear the noise it made either :S

OMG I thought I was the only 1!
I have been doing this as long as I can remember and I'm 40 now, and YES others can hear us lol as my husband is allways telling me to shshshsht during a movie. It's very close to an adiction for me and it's allmost like I get withdrawal symptoms if I don't do it at least once a day.
I had a very crappy upbringing and I have allway put it down to a comfort thing but even though I have a great life now it still brings me comfort. I could never cut my hair short coz there is NOW WAY I'm gonna give up my eargasms.
My doctor doesn't seem to find a problem with me doing this either as I was a bit concerned that I might be damaging my eardrum doing it. Though I have caught myself on a number of occasions and it has hurt the pain never last long and I just change the hair I was playing with.
Like @5parkle5 says I also pity anyone that has not had the pleasure of this sensation and I will not give it up for Love nor Money! I'm so glad to have found you lot xxx Happy eargasms to you all!

Group hug! I love that others have discovered the pure ecstasy of getting a hair on just the right spot.. I spend a few minutes running my hand through my hair then holding it up to the light so I can see any hairs I've picked up. not too short not too thin, then the search begins in and out of my ear with the hair looking for that sensitive spot.. There's only one person I've told, my current girl friend. I even tried getting her into it but she finds it annoying :(.. Everyone else just thinks I'm fiddling with my hair or ear, I also like to get a few hairs under my nails..no where near as good as a tickley ear eheh. I do it while I'm driving always worried a cop is going to see me and think I'm on a cell, and give me a ticket. I do it when I'm in deep thought, if I'm stressed. I do it when I get in bed, to relax and drift off to sleep..or I nod a bit and drop the hair.. then its a cycle of tickle, nod, drop hair, wake up find new one, repeat... I guess we shouldn't be ashamed, we should feel pity for everyone who hasn't felt it!

My whole life I thought it was only me. I think I might be more of a severe case then most. I have an obsession with my inner ears. I pull out a strand of hair , twist a ball at the end of it and stick it in as far as it can go. Keep in mind I cannot do this unless there is hard ear wax in there or else it would not feel good. Nobody wants to actually touch the ear drum. Anyway, I can literally twist the hair in my ears for hours and nothing excites me more when it grabs onto a piece of hardwax and you pull it out. I like the feel of the pain when it pulls on the hard ear wax. Its the whole reason I twist the hair in the ear is either to pull somthing out or to satisfy an itch deep with in the ear. Most times I just do it out of habbit because I really like the feel of it. Espeically if I get a migraine because when I get one, my inner ears will start to hurt, so i have to put hair into them and push it all the way in to releive the pressure from the migraine. I was abused when I was younger so maybe this was a way to escape for me, but in adulthood, I still have this need and it will never go away. Also, does anyone have the need to do it to someone else? I use to love twisting hair in my ex husbands ear. I would do it in anyones ear if they let me. I know, Im crazy! lol.

I don't know anyone else that does..I've been twirling my hair and sticking it in my ear ever since I can remember, I also pinch my hair and rub it around my nose and eyes and twirl it and stick it under my fingernails..my mum and dad have tried to stop me from doing it but I can't help it, I love the feeling in my ear I get when I have hair in it and and it's even better once i start pulling each individual strand out! I'm 18 and not a lot of people excluding my family know about it but I'm not ashamed or embarrassed about it, I wouldn't call it OCD either even if I get quite anxious when I can't do it. it's just nice to know there are others like me out there!

SO HAPPY TO READ ALL THIS!!!I have done this my whole life! I am 18 and have always wondered why I did this. So I actualy put the hair in my ear then move it around a bit and then I sniff the end of my hair with the earwax on it. I don't even think about it. It's just a habit now and hours pass while I do this. Someone needs to ask a doctor about this!! I know that doctors have told me that I have scratches in my ears but I've been too embarassed to say anything and also sometimes I do it too much that my ears are sore and I have trouble hearing :( so I do want help with whatever this is!!

I too have this issue. I think it started when I was a toddler, I had a teddy-bear and used to play with the fur on it by rubbing it between my fingers. I wore all the fur off of his limbs by doing this.
Then at some point I switched to putting my hair in my ears, pulling it out and slowly putting it back in. It's the going in part that I like.
I stopped doing this until I was in my mid twenties and picked it back up again. Unfortunately, I started losing my hair shortly thereafter. So now, the only hair I can get in my ear is the hair on my arm. Needless to say I look like a freak when I do it because I have to contort my arm in order to get the hair at the right angle to go in my ear.

And you thought you had it bad!

I do it lots of different ways. I remember one time I had surgery on my hand so I had to use my right hand to do both ears.. that was hard! miss_emmy_13 I like to rub different fabrics underneath my fingernails. Especially stiff fabrics. Notsofast, you're right so many people accept abnormal things as normal but they question trivial things. I was just wondering if there was anyone else that did the same things as me. You know there are others with road rage.. we see it everyday, but I've never seen another person stick their hair in their ears. But ahh it feels so good!! Thank you everyone for letting me know I'm not alone!
