I saw something unexplainable !

I've been living in this apartment for nearly a year. My apartment building is kinda old. I don't know how old it is but judging by its look, it must be really old. It has 5 floors, 3 rooms on each floor, my place is on the 4th floor. There is no elevator. We have to use a normal stairway. The main stairway is located at the front of the building. If you come through the main door, you will see it immediately.

There is another stairway, which is really small and narrow, located at the back of the building. The landlord stores a bunch of old, rotten furniture stuff there, they fill the stairway up to the 3th floor and halfway to 4th floor. So no one can go up or down using that way. My room, unfortunately is right next to that small stairway.

A couple nights ago, when I was up late studying for my exams, I heard footsteps coming from the direction of the small stairway. It sounded like someone keep going up a few steps then going down and then going up. At first, I was a little scared but then I thought maybe the landlord's staffs tried to move the furniture things. But the footsteps kept going on for like an hour. It was getting really late, like 1pm. I started to freak out. I decided to put my ear on the door and the sound of those footsteps sounded like it was coming right from the upper half of the stairway from 3th floor to 4th floor which is my floor. I gathered my courage and opened the door to look outside. It was dark, there was only one neon lightbulb in the hallway. The moment I protruded my head outside, the footsteps stopped. Complete silence. I squeezed my eyes to look down the small stairway, the lower half of it sunk deep in darkness, I could only see the upper half. For a moment, I thought there was nothing there. But when I was about to get back inside, I realized something strange. I had to blink my eyes a couple times to confirm it. It was right there, at the border of light and darkness, I saw a black figure which looked like half a person from the waist up. The figure stood still like a statue, I couldn't see its legs but it sure looked like a man with no hair just standing there and not moving. I felt like the figure is look up right back at me but I wasn't sure. I was too scared to even look at it any longer. I get back inside my room as quick as possible and phoned my friend - Christine who lives on the second floor. Luckily she was awake at the moment, I told her to came up to my room. From my voice, she knew there was something's up, so she did come a few minutes later. I told her about the figure that I saw. She said it must be a manikin that someone had put there earlier. I asked her to check it out again with me but when we opened the door this time, there was nothing.

Christine thought I was tired and imagined things. I was so scared I asked her to stay with me through the night. And later that night, about 3pm, both Christine and I heard the footsteps again. I woke Christine and forced her to listen. She clearly heard it too, but we weren't dare to find the source of it so we just did nothing. About 15 minutes later, the footsteps disappeared. We couldn't sleep at all.

I've been staying with Christine since that night. I'm looking for a new place. Guys, I just wanna share my story. Do you think I imagined that ?
