I seem to only have 'maternal instincts' towards pets?

I never liked kids, or babies. Friends would have them, and I wouldn't 'ooh' and 'awww' over them. I have no desire to be around them, and always avoid acknowledging them if I'm forced to be in a room with them. Dogs though, it's a whole different story. I just want to scoop them up and cuddle with them, pet them, play with them, etc. I was watching a 'childfree couple on tyra banks' video on youtube, and the guest had said that she has no maternal instincts for kids, unless they walk on all fours and have a wagging tail. I honestly thought I was the only one like that. Is it normal?

    Is there a name for this behavior? Or is it just what it is? It would be interesting to see if there are any articles that go into detail about this :D

    I don't really like babies either. Kids I like, though. When they start talking and doing funny stuff. I get on well with kids because I still think like one.

    But nothing is ever going to enthuse me as much as animals, and dogs in particular. Strangers with dogs often warn me away from their dogs saying he'll jump up and put mud on my pants, or apologise for their dog putting hair all over my clothes, but that bonding moment with a dog you've never met before is just a joy to me. I feel as excited as the dog does. It's bliss. Nothing on this planet makes me happier.

    I was the same until I had my own kids. I'm still like it, only maternal to my own....
