I think babies fingerprints should be collected
As soon as they are born and included in the governments database and have their dna samples added to the federal DNA databank. It would help scientific police work much easier

But what liberty does it really compromise? It seems to me it wouldn't negatively affect a single thing besides the ability to get away with crime. It's not even an invasion of privacy like surveillance.
Idk about the UK but in the USA that violates the 4th and 5th amendment of our constitution and would be illegal.
The 5th amendment states unless law enforcement has a warrant or sufficient probable cause they can not force you to self incriminate yourself. You would not be forced to give any kind of sample of anything unless the government has "reasonable articular suspicion" you have committed a crime. Usually even then need to have a warrant.
The 4th amendment guarantees you the right to privacy and makes it illegal for the government to collect private information against citizens in most cases. The 4th amendment is blatantly violated anyway with the patriot act now.
On a personal level ontop of that I think it is authorianism.
They should be tagged, separated from the parents and placed in a government nursery so they can be properly indoctrinated and not exposed to wrongthink in their early years living at home.
As in a option for parent's to decide, or a mandatory process? If mandatory, it wouldn't be long until microchips become mandatory. Look at what's happening with the Wuhan virus. Some fields/employer's require people to get vaccinated, other places are considering(Possibly require, I stopped following the news) vaccine passports, etc. Most countries are supposedly "Free", but if we are forced to vaccinate, and be applied to databases, what's next? Where would we draw the line?
That's the stupidest shit I've ever heard. Why don't we micro chip them instead with a gps tracker.
dont you thing the government is into your life enough, that you are going to force babies when born to become a property of the government and be tracked for their life and not live free.
Hell no. I say this a guy with fingerprints in the system because I was in the navy.
Now if i got to commit a crime i got to do it with gloves. Ugh the inconvenience.
Just do what I do, smooth out your fingerprints with 500 grit sandpaper (they grow back)
As for putting them into the index of fingerprints. They change as you grow up. By the time you are an adult they wont change anymore.
I'm surprised you're the only one who mentioned this at all. It just goes to show you really take a step back and look at the whole situation, something more people should do. Obviously size is going to increase.
That said, the overall fingerprint pattern is fixed as early as three months before birth and it's been demonstrated that prints taken at age one can be used to identify someone so it's quite possible that prints taken at birth also could be used soon enough.
From what the OP said they wanted to do it immediately after birth but it might still change and that uncertainty shouldn't be taken lightly as for the original purpose for fingerprinting. Then again I really dont like the idea of the goverment requiring everyone's fingerprint. I'm not doubting the benefits of increased security and crime fighting. I just hate the idea of someone without any consent giving information to the goverment about their identifiable features.
ID is a necessary evil in that regard. Sure you dont need to have ID but if you want to function in the greater society you still need some identification. Fingerprints are a bit too invasive for keeping a database on. Wouldnt want the goverment to have my DNA though I'm sure they already do.
I think the system would just be overwhelmed by so many people needing their fingerprint taken in whats probably a very short timespan
