I think pets are overrated
edit: it appears that my original post was taken as an affront to all pet owners despite me saying "a lot of cat owners are retards" implying not all are, obviously. i love my dog and i take good care of him, and i respect all responsible pet owners. i posted this to gauge whether it is 'normal' to find pets, in general, to be overrated. that is the question. anyways...
my family has a dog, i have helped raise and train it but they haven't put much effort in. i was opposed to getting the dog. i like the dog, but not like the rest of the family does. at best, pet owners are normal people, but at worst, from what i have seen, many project all sorts of feelings onto their animals out of loneliness or something and i find that pathetic and delusional. i think the pets i most enjoyed having were fish because i found watching them swim to be a sort of zen-like experience.
the thing is, i am actually obsessed with undomesticated animals and find learning about their biology and adaptations to their natural habitats to be riveting. one thing that especially makes me unsympathetic towards cat owners is how they have these vicarious fantasies of their cat going on adventures in the wild when actually they are exterminating native species on the brink of extinction.
basically, i don't think the average pet owner has much curiosity about animals and a lot of cat owners especially are fucking retards. end of story
