I think scientology is idiotic. is this normal?

I myself am an atheist, but I can still respect most religions and the people that choose to follow them. Scientology however, is another story. I mean come on, paying thousands of dollars to go on a cruise to the middle of the ocean to be told that lord Xenu is responsible for everything? It just sounds ridiculous to me. Of course, some may say the same thing about most religions, but you would think that even the average person would think that this is crazy.

It is perfectly normal to think Scientology is idiotic. But it is wrong to think that Christianity or Islam or any of the other great religions are any less idiotic. As they're all founded on faith, and perpetuated through sacred and inviolable writings, total incongruence with reality is unavoidable, and glaringly obvious to anyone who has eyes to see with, a mind to think with, and the fortitude to draw his own, independent conclusions.

Respect has to be earned. And, a body of claimed knowledge that fails to provide any proof or evidence of its validity, even suggesting that such proof is unnecessary, deserves no respect whatsoever. To confer respect upon such a religion is to perpetuate the myths it promulgates.

Here's what you need to know. The minute that anyone opens their mouth to talk about religion they talk utter nonsense. And that includes the "atheists." It takes a lifetime of the most careful study and reflection to even begin to talk about religion, and most folks are in a rush to get on with their important lives. So we are drowning in an ocean of stupidity and absurdity. As far as "Scientology" is concerned, someone should mention to them that you can't take one word from Latin and one word from Greek and jam them together to make a good English word. What they produce is pseudo-religion and pseudo-philosophy. If one were going to cultivate an interest in western religion it would be best to look not at beliefs but at ritual and prayer, for which the Eastern Orthodox Church is the best. On the other hand, a more cosmopolitan approach would embrace the far east, and Tibetan Buddhism of the north or the Vipassana (Therevada) of the south.

I would recommend Buddhist practice and a careful study of the complete works of William Shakespeare read over the course of a lifetime. Above all, avoid the atheists, another group of pseudo-philosophers.

You can't expect any less from a cult. How anyone could fall for this is beyond me. The founder, who was a pedophile and a sci-fi writer, once said that if anyone could make a religion that they would be rich.

But have you seen them? They all look like super models around their main hq on sunset boulevard in la. They are a complete joke but they all look too perfect to be real.

I didn't give much thought into this cult until two things happened. I had a dentist that would not give certain pain meds because of his "religion" and kept trying to push his special vitamins. Then Tom Cruise being an idiot about it, putting people down because they sought the help of a psychiatrist. So, IMO, idiotic cult because of my experiences.
