I want to get into art college

I'm over 30 but I love visual arts. I think I have a talent for photography and collages. I'd like to make installations, conceptual art and stuff but none of my acquaintances are into it.
Is it too late or should I pursue my dream?

It's never too late. Look into scholarships or programs for helping adults go back to school, there are all kinds of resources out there if you put the time into finding them.

Of course, in the internet age you can find all sorts of tutorials, text, pictoral, videos and things online that could help get you started, but I wouldn't trade the experiences I had going to school for art and the things I learned for the world, I know I wouldn't be the painter I am today without that education.

I didn't go to an art college but simply a college that offered art as a degree, it was less expensive but I was still able to take a lot out of it. If money is a concern you could even start doing classes part time, though certain aspects of financial aid might require you to be a full time student.

    Best of luck!

I spent my career as a lawyer, and at age 66 became an art major at a major university. You have many years ahead of you. Make them purposeful by doing want you want the most.

  • That's so inspiring! Go for it and do whatever makes you happy and it's NEVER TOO LATE! Only if someone's dead, as long as we're alive we always have got chances.

That's fine, but if you're not accepted please don't get mad and take over Europe.

Hey, you're never to old for college. If you have a passion for it, you should follow your dreams.

Sure, if you can afford to go to art college or you can get some financial aid then by all means pursue your dream.

    • I have no money but the will to be an artist.

Then you could start your career by being a nude art model.

        • I would shoot the models and not pose myself.

you've got to know how to do both things. Getting naked will help you identify with the models when you are the photographer.

Perhaps your talent is to finger your arse whilst watching cartoons on Saturday morning.

Why do you need to go to art college to pursue your dream. However, if it will make you feel better by going, then do it. Don't worry about what your friends think. It is your life and you need to do it your way. No regrets then. Like the saying goes, "Mermaids don't care about the opinions of shrimp".

    • I feel people doubt I have any talent. No one knows I want to be into visual arts. I am jobless now so it can be hard to get into an Art College. Do you think I should start showing my work to people who understand about Art?

i dont consider photography as an art form , not even collages. its a technology i like to look at it but i just dont see it as art. btw i like to photograph animals and nature and i dont consider it art. i see at your age going to college as a waste of time and money. unless its a school that teaches you how to get rich selling art and if the teachers new that answer they wouldn't be teaching in the first place

    • It's not about the money for me. I played in bands before and would like to explore this other artistic side I believe I may have.
I think photography is an art form btw.

  • The cost is definitely a problem for me. I'm taking of taking these sort of classes you mention.
Right now, I'm not in a good pace mentally so that will have to wait.
    Thanks for the advice.
