I want to sabotage my husband’s “secret” job

My husband is an epidemiologist who recently was scouted for a position under the US Secret Service.
He’s now under oath to not share any details about what he does or when he works or where he works, some days he is instructed to drive around for an extra hour or so after he gets off work before he goes home to keep his schedule liquid.
I absolutely hate this. I hate being in the dark. I think the whole “secrecy” is stupid and childish. He can’t tell me, HIS WIFE, about his work.

I know he worked his ass off to get as high as he has, but I want him out of this whole stupid career. It’s not family friendly.

I want to get him fired from his position, because I can’t stand this. Or, we are both still young in our early thirties, I want a divorce if he keeps this job.

Get him fired 7

    Just divorce the poor guy.

With jobs like his, he needs to be with someone in the same profession so he can see his wife at work or something, cause you're literally losing your shit at home to the point you sound like a 16 yo girl. "I'm going to get him fired so he got no job!!," like really, that's some high school nonsense.

Do the guy a huge favour and dump him.

Your birth certificate may prove you were born more than thirty years ago, but your emotional age is about half that.

    • So you would have absolutely no problem with your partner disappearing for hours everyday, at different times everyday, and not being able to tell you what he’s doing or where he’s at? Okay. Now think about the scheduling nightmare I have to deal with.
He isn’t allowed to call in sick or take a day off because then it would be obvious he wasn’t at work that day. What about when we have a kid?

So what is his schedule, or rather an example thereof?

            • One of the more extreme cases was he was on call at 1:30 AM, but wasn’t actually allowed to come to the center until 7:20 AM. We live about 30 minutes from his base so he had to run the DC roads for 6 hours before hand. Not sure when “real work” ended, but he got home at 5:30 PM which isn’t abnormal.
And as for your other comment, of course I’ve expressed how I feel, but he’s still in such a honeymoon stage with his new job he’s willing to lick the boots and do circus tricks until his boss pats him on the back.
And for your comment on working on the National level or living in DC. Yeah. It’s rough. Eventually the protests sound like white noise and the corruption just gnats in your face. I always work privately, and my husband, being a Russian immigrant, commutes constant jests now that he works Nationally.

Tell him very honestly and clearly how you feel, even if he doesn't want to hear it. See if you can come to a compromise. If you can't then maybe you should have a chat about divorce. If you're both dead set on these different paths then there's no point making each other miserable.

    Alright so;
I´d not like that situation either (Because I'm a clingy and immature fuck) , but you are one childish fuck who wants to sabotage his Life like that. Shame on you.

I'd try to compromise, ask him to tell you when he's on and off work and when he's expected to be home.

If he really worked for the secret service, they'd have your computer tapped and this post would have set off an alert. If there were any cyber spies hanging around here they could be a threat and the secret service won't like that. I'd pack a bag, just essentials, and leave town asap.

    • Good. I don’t care. He doesn’t do anything important enough to start any ruckus I’m sure. It’s just stupid confidentialities to protect lawsuits and money.

        • If you live and work in Wash. DC practically everyone has had to do stupid confidential shit. Even plumbers or people fixing the ac unit in a government building. It’s incredibly common for confidentiality oaths to be made but they’re often temporary.

Well yes. TheGypsySailor is now Jethro. He rarely participates. Haven't seen LGRAS for a couple of years. As for the high IQ crowd, TommyTheCat is long gone, FattyMcJiggles gave up, CountessDouche wandered off into the Australian outback and was never heard from again. We had a short performance by DublinGirl, but someone hurt her feelings in an argument over economics. Poor girl; I liked her. Green_Boogers, the math whiz, got banned and dropped. And finally, IQSteve took his arrogance elsewhere.

Your old friend Asstastics has been silent for 10 months. If he ever shows up, you can block him with the new block feature. It works well. Many people had trouble with charli.m, but now that they blocked her, she can't see them to argue with them anymore.

So life goes on. Welcome back.

And the ridiculous time stamps and schedule he has just messed with it all. He “goes into work” hours before work sometimes and just does nothing until real work hours start.

Please, please stop your whining. You are in a new culture now. Your job is to make friends with other wives, and listen to their adventure stories so you learn how the world is run. Your starting point, should you decide to "woman up" for the challenge, is to read Foreign Operative Field Manuals. Here's a link to get you started

    http://www.bits.de/NRANEU/others/amd-us-archive/fm2-0%2804%29.pdf

One other thing. ISBN 978-0-399-17567-1. Read it soon. You better know it before you need to use it.

Of course not. You don't need him on a leash to execute your own plans either. The two of you have the opportunity here to embark upon a lifestyle of independence, self-expression, and a fairly affluent living standard. Your future is in your own hands. Dogs, kids, soccer, and SUVs are nothing more than sub-standard aspirations that are advertised on television.

Sorry to digress, but here's the thing. Everybody is a little bit lazy. Laziness is healthy to a point. But when you are too lazy to read, that is getting serious. In that case laziness is a symptom not a problem. Your interests maybe dull from a bit of depression, or perhaps you quietly want isolation for your mind to heal. Whatever.

I have never really gotten to that point, but when I get close to it I try to expand my horizons. Because basically I don't know if there is something I don't know that I would be excited to know if I knew it. So listen up Rose, in many ways you are a bit like me; kind of unsinkable. Get your butt in a car and visit DirtyBird in New Jersey. She doesn't know it yet, but she likes you. You don't know it yet, but you'll give her a happy day that will make her glad she met you in person. The prospect of this whole thing is cheering me up because I like both of you.

Have you tried talking to your husband about this? This is a decision the two of you have to make, not us. And "getting him fired" isn't an option for you. He decides if he wants to keep his job, and if he does then you decide if you want a divorce.
