It's not a geometrical place nor heaven.
When we die we leave the body and some dimensions of mind which contains the discrimination mind, logical mind. That's why in a death bed people trying to make them much as comfortable, meeting their relatives and loved one, or make them comfortable with anything what they have believed in religion or beliefs.
If you die in fear, since you no longer have discrimination mind, you can't figure out why your fear exist and it goes along with the conciousnes. In other world you are in hell.
If you die in peace or happy same idea goes along with your conciousness which mean you are in heaven. That's all it is to be.
It's a dream, hell and heaven. When you are dreaming you can't figure out sometimes something pleasure or fear because your logical mind is deep or you have stepped out. you are unaware. So your conciousnes roles with what ever the memory that recycle in the dream.
Hell and heaven is the same concept just, more deeper than a dream because one you can't wake up , two, in a dream at some point your discrimination mind get active and everything started to make sense. After death you can't do it.
Sharp awareness, sleeping practices, yoga, some meditation, any one is capable to see this reality. So it's a choice. would you or believe something doesn't geometrical exist.

Astrology is still used today, religion is used to segragate and due to the need for civility religion is now useless but it has done it's job in spiritually retarding people. The effect is there if you are religious or not as not being means you think and is still a reaction to it, not understanding what it is.

Which Hell? The hell of the lost (Hell) is in an unknown location. The hell of the Fathers (Sheol/Hades) is, I suppose, in the earth's core, since it is described as deep underground. I don't know where the hell of the children would be, not that it really matters.
