I feel really sorry for the OP :o( Sorry that you ever discovered gambling!

Dappled is right; pushing buttons, flashing lights, background whistles / bells / music all add to the desire of repetitive behaviour and excitement.

Many, many years ago when I was about 10 years old I played the penny waterfalls and realised I loved it!! My mom tried to give me more pennies but I said no - coz I liked it TOO much, I've never played anything like that again. It's the only way - avoid gambling like the plague.

We have instances in our family where gamblers have lost the family home, car, grand piano, wealth, jewellery, etc. All coz they were convinced they would win at cards :o((

    Please stop!!!!!

Those places are designed to appeal to you psychologically. If that wasn't bad enough, there's often a powdered chemical on the coins that get paid out which makes you more likely to want to take risks.

Is that a fact? I find it very hard to believe that they could legally drug you without your knowledge to make you more likely to give them money.

I don't know whether it still goes on, but I know it did. The machines are designed with all kinds of psychological tricks to keep you gambling as well as the feel-good risk-taking chemical (whose name I'm disappointed not to be able to remember).

I don't see that it's much different than the stimulants they put in chocolate to eventually give you a slight comedown that's fixed by buying more chocolate 24 hours later.

Selling anything that's addictive (gambling, alcohol, cigarettes) has a dangerous line between encouraging responsible use, and discouraging it. In today's financial climate, the companies that survive are liable to be the ones who left their morals behind for the sake of profit and competitiveness.

I went and had a look too. Either people are keeping very quiet about this, or I've imagined the whole thing. Hmm...

  • Its called a gambling addiction. I have an addictive personality so I stay well away from gambling...maybe you should call one of those hotlines they have for it, before you put yourself in debt.
