First of all...I think that both Elvis and MJ were about even at the top of the list...both revolutionized music in their time. I would have Prince as third, and Cobain last on your list (there are several better than Cobain that are not on your list...I don't think he was nearly as talented)...

Prince was a multi-instrumental machine. None of those three match him even closely. And I'm not even a fan.

Elvis and Cobain are on par, skill wise, in my opinion. They played guitar and sung songs. OK. Elvis threw his life away and, in real life, Cobain was an utter fake and shit bag (read any half decent biography on him).

Michael Jackson was a performer, not a musician. He's more on par with Jeremy Clarkson. A marmite character, a performer, and a bit of a charlatan.

Be prepared for all the contrarians to claim that all of these artists suck.

    1. Prince 2. Elvis 3. Cobain 4. Michael Jackson

I don't see an ethnic correllary, besides, while I am ranking them in my opinion, they made different types of music at different times. You have a forty year gap going between Elvis Presley and Kurt Cobain.

I agree Prince was more talented than all 3. MJ not so much. He is below the other two in my opinion.

Elvis and Cobain aren't the best examples of "white music" anyway.

The Beatles, Stones, Bruce Springsteen, even Billy Joel are better examples of "white music".
