So much of the emotional stunting of today's men can be traced to videogames and anime, I think. What reason does a man have to rise up and become the kind of man that a woman needs and the kind of father that her children need if he can settle for the mirage of achievement and fake love that video games and anime cartoons with big-boobed waifus provide? I was reading a book recently by a Japanese scholar on the phenomenon of otaku culture in Japan and in one study, a young man was approached by a pimp with the prospect of bedding a beautiful girl. This guy said that his heart only belonged to Sailor Moon, and that he wouldn't cheat on her ("Beautiful Fighting Girl" by Saito Tamaki). This book was published in the year 2000, and I think things have only gotten worse.

I mean, if I was approached by a pimp I wouldn't take the offer, either...

But no, just because you're into anime and video games doesn't mean you're a creepy "waifu" guy. I have a friend who's been into all that stuff for as long as I've known him. He set up an anime club when we were high school and used to frequent anime conventions. He's a married man with kids now, making a living as an electrician.

Some people just don't know how to separate fantasy and reality, and they tend to take the spotlight.

If you ask me, it's all about schools, screens, and bad parenting. The kids aren't getting their fix from video game achievements, they're getting it from Likes on their social media accounts.

    You have a strange view on male/female relationship dynamics and I find it interesting you zeroed in on Japan, which is a very unusual country in and of itself with these issues. Japan really shouldn't be used as an example when saying the entire world is becoming this way.

Solution: Date people with the same interests as you.

It's really not that difficult. If a person is really that bothered by their partner's hobbies, then it likely won't be that successful of a relationship either.

Date men who arent obsessed with games and anime. Its that simple.

That said, men needs the beauty standards us women need to conform to. Its ridiculous how many fat hideous neckbeards comment on gorgeous perfect womens looks as not good enough due to minor flaws. Or maybe men simply do not deserve women in general and we should all just be lesbians. Its possible these days at least.

  My brother was an extremely lonely individual. I think, in retrospect, he may have been on the spectrum. He wasn't really "ugly", in fact multiple women were attracted to him, but he always found something wrong with each of them. Then he would wallow in his own self pity about how women don't want him.

Men have actually improved. They change diapers. Take their kids to the grocery store. Heck, some will verbalize how they’re feeling. Some are fighting for feminism. Some will actually take the time and put in the effort to make a girl orgasm.

Japan as a whole has an odd few on sex. I wouldn’t follow any advise on the subject from a Japanese person.

Japanese culture has become incredibly degraded over time. Rapidly going from an imperialistic warrior centric country to a society that happily manufactures hello kitty toasters. This is the ramifications of being neutered both in mind and body.

No longer is going through the military looked upon as a honorable craft. Rather it's often the last ditch effort to save face.

That leads to a surplus of men with little aspirations to follow in their salaryman fathers footsteps. With an enabling culture of cigarette use and alcoholism. So fantasizing about being in literally any other circumstance to be living in is the state of mind of these otaku.

If you actually go to japan the plastic veneer falls off very quickly when you look around the smaller towns. Japan is simply a very depressing place to live in. After a month you can accurately see the reason why the suicide rate is so damn high, and why otaku culture has taken ahold of the minds of the younger population.

I agree with you, in a way. Catholic teaching pretty much states that if your entertainment does not teach you anything useful, you are wasting your time. Unfortunately, much modern content really does fall under that umbrella. It is actually very hard to make content that isn't a waste of time. That's why there are so few Catholic fiction authors, for example.

    No. The Gospel is not the only "useful" lesson. Moral lessons, practical lessons; there are many different types of useful lessons. It's still very hard to make fictional content that actually teaches them, though. Also, not everything explicitly -has- to teach these useful lessons; wasting one's time is inevitable, and it is not always necessarily negative.
    
    For example, if one plays a game of cards, one is wasting one's time, but it's not truly -bad-, there are simply better things one could be doing with one's time. Another example, the most recent poem that I wrote was nothing more than an exaggeration of my opinion on pie.
    
    Generally, it's good not to waste one's time, but it is not so awful to do so. One could say that not wasting one's time helps with one's salvation, while wasting one's time does not necessarily help nor hinder it. It is certainly better for one to waste one's time than to spend one's time doing evil, though.
    
    However, it must also be noted regarding the creation of works of fiction that it is rarely truly the case that it is wholly a waste of time. For example, if the work itself is evil, even if one intends only to waste one's time, it is not only evil to make it, but evil to view it, so it is no longer a waste of time. In the same manner, if a work is good, even if one intends merely to waste one's time, it is still meritorious to make it and still meritorious to view it. A large amount of the time, one of these two is the case.
    
    Veggie Tales did teach useful lessons. Catholics like Veggie Tales.
