Is it normal at 29 to have never had a full-time job?

I got my first job just before I turned 27, but it's only part-time. Plus it's on a government employment scheme, so part of the wages is still coming from welfare (at least that's my understanding of how it works). So I still feel like I've never really gotten a real job. It lasts two years (it was only supposed to be for a year but they gave me a year's extension), so I'll be about 29 when I finish it. I don't really have a legitimate reason for it like illness or depression or anything (apart from spending about 2-3 years in courses), I just couldn't get a job. There's no guarantee I'll be able to find a job then right away after this one either, it took me years to get this one. I could well be in my early 30's, never having had a full-time job. Is this normal? Should I be embarrassed about it? I'm worried I'll get severely judged if anyone, like a future girlfriend, asks me about my first job.

    Yea it's big in Australia. quarter to half of ya pay comes from the government cause even working full time isn't enough to live. Ya need to work 20 hours a day and work until you are 80. Fuck that.. There is so much beauty in the world to not have time off to explore.

      I've managed living and working with no government payouts for the last 16 years. Even when I've been technically unemployed for six months, no payouts. I'm not a high wage earner.

      So has pretty much everyone I know of working age, with no disabilities or dependents. Even those with dependents, they largely or entirely survive on their own wage.

      What's your excuse?

          Not to mention continually insulting people when you're claiming they insult you. The evidence is right there.
