Is it normal atheist think religion is stupid when we have scientific theory?

Theory is not fact. Theory is a believed answer to something. Theories are changed and sometimes we get new ones. One that is not actually fact. By definition a theory is "An explanation for a phenomenon". However theories are still debatable. So how does that make it any more credible? Theories often can not be proved but are simply a guess. People think this stuff happened but have nothing proving it true. So how is an alternate belief any different. Isn't it just another theory?

I can't keep explaining the difference between hypothesis and theory anymore. I've done it so many times. They aren't interchangeable and so many people confuse the two.

    I'm tired.

    • Once again...I come off as an asshole when I don't mean to.

Do a google search on "scientific method." You will find many explanations of the differences between the two, and you'll see where I'm coming from.

Theories usually have some proof to back them up.

Theories have scientific proof and evidence to support them, whilst religion does not. We can conduct experiments, gather data and subsequently provide alternative theories, whilst religion has no such process. Religion relies on blind 'faith', not scientific theory. There is nothing scientific about religion at all. No experiments, no tangible data, just faith.

On a sidenote, if I came up with a theory, that an army of invisible fairies pull every single object towards Earth's surface, by your logic, my theory would be as credible as gravity. Anybody can guess how things happen, the thing that separates the religious theories and the scientific ones is evidence and logical reasoning. Both of which are absent from religion.

    • That is called Newtons law. So its a law not a theory.

Hahahaha, it's a theory dude. You don't see various lawyers quoting Newtons Law, Boyle's Law or Faraday's Law in courts, trying to send people to jail for breaking them.

      • Gravity is a law.

          Gravity is also a theory.
Creationism for example is just a hypothesis but one that's flawed and wasn't based on a shred of evidence. Not only that but there is evidence to the contrary.

Most theories HAVE been scientifically proven. You aren't helping your case by writing something that is logically flawed.

Religion isn't based on science so stfu. It's either faith or scientific evidence of evolution. Stop trying to bring science into religion since most deny Darwin's theory. You can't manipulate it to your agenda so go back to praying..

Evolution is fact. Gravity is also a theory, are you going to argue it doesn't exist?

As I've been atheist, christian, and practiced many other religions with my three serious husband/ life partners I've had I can honestly say after 36 years of looking for answers is that it would be stupid to think one could solve an argument that had been going on for thousands of years by the greatest minds and over generations, than some lonely soul with a limited scope of existence and not even halfway done with life such as me can arrive at a conclusion....meaning im currently agnostic

Regardless of the definition of theory, I believe that anything's possible. The scientific method is a useful tool for earthly living, but I think it does a person good to believe and have faith in things that there's no proof for; to believe for the sake that you want something to be real or true, not because it is proven to be so. Science is truth in a sense, but cold truth, maybe a personal truth doesn't need evidence, it just has to feel right to the person. But that's just me. BTW, I call myself a spiritual agnostic.

Thinking that religion is anti-science is a false belief. Google "Islam and science".

Islam is not anymore scientific than another religion. If I were to believe islam I would have to believe that the sun sets in a pond of murky water lol.

Going to school doesn't guarantee that you understand what's being taught. Evolution for example lol

    • You are right religion is not anti science. Atheism is anti religion though.

have you met every religious person in the world past, present, and future? I'm sure you must have based on your comment. You must have also met every atheist as well because I'm sure they all completely understand science.

          • I do not think this member ever went to school. Since I have never heard of a school that excludes children based on them believing in religion. They probobly live on an island and do not understand what a religion is. Probably one were they eat each other for dinner and mothers make babies with sons. That or are jealous cathlocs make such nice highschools.

That's a very broad generalization. I'm an atheist but I'm not ANTI-religion. I don't believe in god but I accept and understand other people's need for it.

I agree with many religious ideas: do good, love your neighbor, don't be greedy, etc. But the thought of some Being overhead who created life and watches us masturbate and judges every decision we make is ludicrous to me.

I'll never tell someone not to believe in God or the Bible just because I don't. We have different beliefs and that's what makes us individuals. But, I ask in return that the believers also respect the differences and stop trying to push their religious values on me and everyone else. (Especially in the government.) I truly believe that (almost) everyone wants to be a good person, but we can take different paths to get there and that's ok.

My whole life I believed that "daddy long leg spiders were the most venomous spiders on Earth but there fangs were to small to bite a human" Bullshit, there venom is weak and they can bite you.

Point is, nothing you believe is real.

    • What? You know even as a troll if you want any kind of reaction you should at least try to make sense. Daddy long legs are pretty harmless. Also if nothing anyone believes is real that means everyone and everything that has ever existed is a lie. If something is fact you believe that fact to be true. Since you believe everything is a lie you live in a world without any truths or fact. So I guess you are going to go to a puppy and say "You are a cat" trying to convince that animal that its existence is a lie.
