Is it normal being asexual leads to misanthropy?

I have a theory and it is based solely on a person I know, so thought I would pose a question to a greater majority to test it. I have a friend who I've known since high school, who went out with boys then, after high school became lesbian (or perhaps always was one, closeted)and now she is simply Asexual. Ever since she made that switch from lesbian to Asexual she has changed dramatically to the point now where she is completely misanthropic. To those who don't know what that word means, it's the hatred towards humans in general.

I have this theory and I don't mean to offend any Asexuals, but that the lack of interest in male and female intimacy and affection leads to total despondence, indifference and repulsion towards people in general. It certainly seems the case with my friend, I find it very hard to be around her now because she is so negative. So what do you think about this subject? I am also pondering if perhaps the misanthropy came first, which lead her to become Asexual. I just don't know.

I've always been asexual. The general hatred for humanity developed in high school though.

    • Yeah I know right. I'm the same. And back then I remember the adults at the time telling me "Don't worry you'll get over it, you'll grow up, you'll calm down. Another youth, another fashion, you'll get over it, you'll calm down. You don't really mean what you say, you haven't had enough time to think. Don't be so full of hatred, It's not as bad as you think."

      And I'd respond with;
"No I don't believe in what you say
You're just part of what I despise
Yes you're part of the fucking system
I ain't blind, I can see your lies
Because the system thrives on ignorance
What the public don't know, they can't reject
In the face of you all I stand defiant
The rest of the people, they wanna forget."

  • No, but I could see being misanthropic leading to asexuality.

That's the same thing as saying all asexuals hate eggs. It really depends on the individual. I personally know two asexuals and they are the exact opposite of misanthropic.

I'm asexual, and pretty much love being around people.
The only people I hate are rude ones, just like everyone else on this planet.

Asexual only means you don't experience sexual attraction towards people. I don't see what that has to do with building good relationships and enjoying being around fellow humans?

I'm asexual yet, I don't consider myself to be misanthropic.

I completely agree. Asexual nuns hate kids and kick the shit out of them. Lesbian nuns that lick each other to orgasm every day aren't as bad.

I tend to agree for the most part with the comments of BugsforBreakfast and Avant-Garde. However, I would also be reasonably willing to surmise that your friend may have been hurt repeatedly in her romantic endeavours with others and now as a result she may be feeling bitter and jaded towards other humans as a whole. If I were you I wouldn't take her misanthropic attitudes and behavior personally; she's probably suffered a lot.
