Is it normal dog neutering/spaying

Humans should control their own disgusting population and leave dogs alone. They are the ones who cause most problems.

You can't ever be 100% sure your pet will never get loose or otherwise have an opportunity to breed. Besides, spaying or neutering prolongs the animals life.

In my opinion...and I have owned and worked with animals most of my life... I think animals can live a happier, MUCH less stressful life when not ruled by raging hormones. Animals in heat act ridiculous. Males attracted to them will kill themselves to get to that ass. It's no way to live.

There are people that entirely agree with you. I know that some people I've met from Norway say that in their country, yes it is absurd to 'fix' dogs.
People ought to question spay/neuter for the health of their dog, yes.

There's some controversy about the age timing of spay/neutering. Some say don't do this too early.

I've seen some interesting before/after hormonal adjustments in spayed/neutered dogs that make me go hmmmmm.... like, spayed female dogs often develop an ANNOYING urine leaky problem that occurs due to hormonal changes post-spay. You trade one issue for another. Neutering, at least with beagles? The male beagles I've seen neutered, within months become fat. It's a hormone shift that contributes to this. Granted all is manageable. If you seek an athletic dog, neutering is out of the question!

I've not necessarily seen much of a behavior change in spayed/neutered dogs. They still mark like crazy. Some still chase as if they're entirely intact (nope not a cryptorchid). I've seen dogs that are aggression prone intact or neutered (however, socialization/training happens to be what deters that kind of behavior).

Now, with the general population of dog owners, spaying/neutering is probably the BEST move. Most people aren't super duper dedicated hyper-responsible care takers. They have dogs, they feed them, and that's it. Yeah, these are the same people that use a backyard as their dog's main form of exercise, and the dog happily sleeps around the house for much of the day (hopefully!). Really, this is typical. That kind of dog household does NOT NOT NOT need an intact dog at all. For the sake of population control, yes indeed I support spay/neuter. Most people aren't suited to keeping dogs anyways, at least from what I've seen. A lot of people get dogs, having no idea the amount of time dogs require. Too many people think that dogs suit a working household where the dog barely makes it outdoors in the morning and the evening, while the humans work all day long. It's the equivalent of a latchkey canine. If you're in the minority that's super responsible/knowledgeable about your dogs, by all means leave them intact. If any unplanned pregnancies occur, you can take responsibility for it. You also should be educated enough to keep up with routine veterinary exams, particularly for unspayed female dogs to watch for uterine cancers. Gotta say though that keeping an unspayed female dog is absolutely annoying.

You don't mention the very real issue of the serious health issues experienced by female dogs (and maybe cats too, I'm not sure about that) who are left unneutred but never bred.

People should get their dogs and cats spayed/neutered regardless if they go roaming about the streets or not! Both my dog and cat (neither are allowed to roam freely around) are fixed! Most people see this cute baby and go gaga for it until they realize what a pain in the ass it is! Too hyper, to aggressive, takes too long to house train, has to go out to relieve themselves too often, has to clean up after it often, sneaks out of the house (cats more often even though as a child our dog did sneak out every time we would go to close the door from answering it and he would be gone before you got to the top of the stairs to yell his name).. Basically not enough time for it to train it properly and they end up getting rid of it and to God only knows who! I had a neighbor that breed his dogs all the time for extra income and then once his sweet Feebie was acting out from her pups getting all the attention and mostly likly from being beat all the time she started relieving herself in the house so he had her put to sleep and another one he walked down the street and just let it wander away! So very sad! But like it or not too many people don't care if there are an excessive amount of cats wandering the streets or dogs that are unwanted being given to possibly the wrong people or taken to be put down or brought to the shelter where there is a high chance that they are gonna get euthanized just because they were born and unwanted basically! Same goes for cats too!! So sad but true! My pup is not only fixed but chipped too in case she ever learns to jump the fence or digs a hole to go under it! Soon I will be taking my cat in to get chipped incase he sneaks out again and gets picked up! I love my animals and my puppy, shit.. as much money as I spent to purchase her, all of her vaccines including rabies, flea meds, heart worm/ other worm meds, blood and fecal testing.. her crate for when I'm gone, pet gates, big bag of dog food every month, toys, treats, etc.. you better believe I'm paying to get her fixed and chipped! That is an expensive investment! In the 3 months I have had her, I'm in about $1000K.. And she was only $300.. I see some dogs are in the $1000k + range.. I could never spend that much on an animal ever! Shit, I can't even believe I spent as much as I did on her... But I did and she is part of my family now and I got to take care of her! If I could get my kids fixed so they didn't reproduce I would because this world is a cruel world and it's only getting worse! Thank you lord that no one has gotten pregnant and pray that no one does for a long time if at all!
