Is it normal for a 20 year old to be scared of the dark?

I'm really scared of the dark, and I have a night class that doesn't end until after dark. I have to walk home through the dark woods, and it terrifies me. I just want someone to hold my hand. Am I too old for this?

You should buy a nice flashlight. Honestly walking through a forest at night alone sounds fairly terrifying and I'm not even afraid of the dark

There's good reason to have a "healthy" fear of the dark. Evil lurks in the darkness because the dark covers their crimes and facilitates their escape.
What the intelligent thinking person does to combat that fear is the key to survival. Fear is a gift. It impels us to do things to reduce our exposure and enhance our prospects for survival.
You shouldn't be walking alone at night in the dark, especially in the woods or unlighted areas. Teem up with other people attending the same class and walk together, or carpool, or change your class to a different time or a different campus, or something! Don't just tough it out and shiver in fear and keep doing the same old thing.
Watch the crime shows, read the news stories, etc., this stuff isn't all fiction just put out there to entertain you. It's based on facts gleaned from real life experiences of people often caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Get a copy of the book; THE GIFT OF FEAR by Gavin Debecker, and educate yourself.
Don't be afraid of fear. It can save your life!

I'm 27 and while i am generally fine in dark places, there is one main exception. Sometimes after i watch a particularly scary or creepy movie, then i might get a little freaked out in my own home when it is really quiet and really dark. The mind has a way of playing tricks on us

Maybe there's some underlying reason for your fear?
