Is it normal for a coworker to say this to you?

I feel like she was making a rude dig and basically saying you look old to my face.

I'm 25 but I never told her my age and we have lots of people in their 20s who work at this company.

We're in the staff lounge and I never got the opportunity to talk to her so I finally did. She's really shy and looks about 18 but she told me she's just graduated from university and is 21 then without asking how old I am, she says "I know I'm really young, I'm like the youngest one here"

I can't understand what she was getting at or how she can tell I'm a few years older...is she trying to say I look 35+? Because to me when you say you're younger than someone without knowing their age, it seems like you think they definitely look out of their 20s..

maybe someone told her she was the youngest?? Because even though she looked 18, I didn't know she was 21 and could have been 25 for all I know. I'd never say I know I'm younger than you..

I really hope I don't look older than my age. That's what I'm scared of.

Ummm, she was just trying to make convo. I think you looked to hard into what she said. She did not say that you were old but that she was young. Plus, sounds like she is the youngest there so I don't see the problem. It sounds like your own insecurities coming to light.

It didn't sound like she was trying to insult you, just that she felt insecure about herself was maybe trying to fit in or make conversation? Don't take her comment so personally, I doubt she was suggesting that you look old.

Get over it she probably just feels a bit uncomfortable working with people older than her...remember she's generally fresh out of highschool where she was one of the "old" ones.

Sounds to me like she just feels self-conscious about her age.

Actually you are 2 peas in a pod....she probably has been told she looks young and so she is overly sensitive and interprets that as a negative.....she hears "immature" ..." inexperienced"...." below par" ...etc....

You also are overly sensitive....as you hear....over the hill...dead wood, etc...

She may even like you....because she said " I know I look young" ...to beat you to the punch of possibly saying it yourself because she knew if she heard you say it...it would irritate her and she would not like you for it....but now because she said it and not you she still can like you...

I'm 50 years old and can tell you that when I was in my 30 's I had the most success with women ...so dont worry about looking in your 30's ....even girls 20 years old can be into you

Most girls are not turned off by guys 5 to 10 years older..in fact many prefer that
