Is it normal for a dr. to have a nurse call you with bad medical news?

Is it normal for a Dr. to have a nurse call you with bad medical news and then when you question the nurse about it she says you'll have to talk to the Dr.? Why bother calling me, scaring me half to death with a scary diagnosis and then not be able to answer my questions. Why didn't they just tell me to come in to speak to the Dr? Is this normal?

  • Update... the Dr. called me today and the doctor was in SHOCK that the nurse told me what she did. She only asked her to give me the results of one test which was negative... she was waiting for more info and the doctor was planning to tell me herself. The doctor was really upset I found out my diagnosis the way I did and none of my questions were answered by the nurse. The Dr. said she'd NEVER have someone else call someone to give that the diagnosis I got. It sounded like the nurse was in a lot of trouble.

The doctor took a lot of time with me and I'll see her early next week. It's not an immediately deadly diagnosis but it's not a good thing. She's already put the meds in the pharmacy and I started them tonight.

They do this so you have to make another appointment with the doctor and the doctor gets money from your insurance company for your visit. Bunch of greedy bastards.

They are a sadistic people. During my last pap I had them test me for hep because my ex kept telling me I should be worried about it after we broke up (to keep me from sleeping with anyone else I assume). They called me and said I tested positive for hep A, but gave no details and I became very depressed for about a week. Then I got retested and it turned out to be my immunity that made me test positive...fuckers scared the shit out of me.

Stay strong, OP. Idk what your ailment is but I hope you overcome it the best you can.

It's ok, thank you. In a way it helped me appreciate life more, even though it's not the worst thing that could have happened.

You're immune to herpes? I didn't even know you could do something like that!

Not herpes lol. Hepatitis. Apparently I got a vaccine for it a while back. It's easily spread through food and usually goes away on it's own (hep A, not B and C), but not always...so i was pretty worried anyhow.

    • I don't feel ready to talk about it, but it's serious.
