Is it normal for a guy to be very immature at 26?

I know a guy who is 26 and is still mentally like 14. He still acts exactly the same as he did in high school and is a complete jerk, and is even dating a girl who just graduated high school this year (they got together while she was still in high school).

Is it normal to be this immature and to have not changed at all from the time he was in high school to 26? Is there any hope he will ever grow out of it or will he be one of those guys who stays mentally at high school age forever?

I know a guy who still acts like he's in high school and he's 26 too. He's not a jerk though, very cool guy, but it's like he just can't get past the "good old days" those were to him and he's even kinda upset some of his old HS friends have started families etc and can't party with him anymore.
I think it's common enough. Not wanting to grow up.

    • I know a lot of people like that too. My friend group from high school fell apart within the first few years of us leaving high school and my best friend insists on trying to find a way to convince everyone to be buddy-buddy again and act just like in high school rather than moving on. Him and one of the others also say they miss high school, prom, etc. I can't relate tbh. I had some good memories and met some good people, but I'm past all of that and in a new chapter of life I like much better. At least they aren't jerks though like the guy in question.

Not normal, your friend is most likely a man-child of some sort, or another.

I think all of us guys are man-children that never really grow up... to some extent at least...

I mean I've imitated the turbo noises my E420 makes, while I drive it. Much to my girlfriend's amusement.

I've made jet noises while I clean and move model airplanes I have in my living room. Again very entertaining for my girlfriend. Ever see a model of an F16 chase down an SR71, while reciting Top Gun quotes?

Hell, my dad is retired, in his 60s and we play videogames together, online. Keeping some of your childhood with you is always nice. Naturally there are limits XD

I can be very childish and I am 26. but truthfully I only do it to be annoying which is very childish.

Age is only a number when it comes to maturity. You are either mature or not.

Not necessarily, and I wouldn't want to have anything to do with a guy who is more than two to four years older than me.

Unfortunately far to normal; and it shouldn't be. The same is true for Ladies as well. There is a reason for it too... and a type of person that escapes that.

Current society and our education system strips our abilities to dream and achieve things away. Get a good education and get a good job... They ask you what you want to do - and steer you into something they chose for you unless you really know what you want to do getting out of high school or college. They don't ask you how you want to live your life or present options that you actually have.

The result is that for many people the most successful and fun thing they have ever done is something from High School or College where they succeeded after a lot of hard work. They never see another opportunity to be successful like that again because they are focused on their job and immediate society and culture. They naturally focus on the good memories... and will talk about them forever.

Some people break out of that, and realize that all those successes in High School and College were for was to show that they could be successful... and that there are more things in the world they can be successful at.

These people also tend to have other dreams and goals beyond their job and current lifestyle.

Look for the people who can dream - who are accountable. They exist... and then talk to them about dreams and goals on how you and they want to live their lives in 5, 20 XX years... Then find a way to do that.

Yes, I'm proud of my High School athletic achievements. I'm more proud of going to the Olympics (as an Official as I was a better judge than competitor), and 2 world championships.

I'm very proud of how much money I made and how as a teenager with the jobs I had. I'm more proud that I currently have 4 different companies (although Covid affected 2 of them - they should still be profitable this year).

I had a really neat girlfriend in high school, and a few since that I have stayed in contact with... But I actually married a foreign Princess (wasn't planning that - but that's the match that occurred; and she had to surrender that formal tittle when she became a US Citizen).

I've got a multi-million dollar totally financially free mentor, and he has similar friends; and my next big goal is total financial and time freedom.

The reality is that Success is a journey. It's not a destination. I've yet got decades on my journey... and pretty much only use my past successes for the knowledge that I can achieve anything that I want that is allowed by the actual laws of nature or physics.

Too bad most of the population does not realize the options they have. Find someone who dreams and will find those options. He will grow up - as he will have to if he is going to succeed... Be part of his success... Its a wild and fun journey...

So you’re still married to a princess? Where’s she originally from?

Ukraine... Of course; it has been a hidden blood line for many decades as her ancestor was a minor part of the royal family that was visiting friends when the royal family was executed, and went into deep hiding. The kind of secret passed down from a dying grandmother to a granddaughter on her deathbed.

Had it been known that my wife family had royal blood during the period of communism and the period of the Soviet Union; thy could have been killed by anyone - and whoever killed them would have been declared a hero. After-all - the royals only stole from the poor and were the reasons the country fell.

So she technically was not recognized by Ukraine in modern times (even after the breakup of the Soviet Union); and technically as not formally recognized she did not have to list that on the US Citizenship application - but felt it was needed for completeness. However, that does not change who she is.

Also, I have a similar story. My ancestors associated with my last name were loosing the war with a neighboring kingdom (Prussia region - currently Germany) during the years when most small kingdoms were combined into larger ones in that area. One of the sons fled to the US. Otherwise, all members of the royal family were slaughtered (including children) to eliminate any claims on the territories and properties by any descendants later.

My Grandfather went back to Germany I believe in the early 1980's and located the crumbling family castle; and when the locals found out he was a direct decedent offered to allow him to buy it for 1 German Mark if he would fix it up. He declined. You could likely drop $1 Million + is such a renovation, not to mention routine upkeep, utilities, and taxes.

A reality, there are a lot of people who have descended from royalty somewhere.

But, I sure enjoy calling my wife Princess, and she sure enjoys being called it.
