Is it normal for a kid to be like this?

See here's the thing. It has to be a subject that interests the child. Children who wish to know everything for the sake of it are pretty rare

There are a few young children who develop a particular interest in some topic and devote a lot of time to its study. I'm sure that occasionally that's because they have a very definite idea of what they want to do with their life, but I think usually it's just because the topic fascinates them for its own sake.

Young children live very much in the moment. Long-term planning tends to be what's going to happen in the next couple of weeks, not what they're going to be doing when they're twenty-five. For a normal kid in their first year of primary school, their high school years seem to be in the far distant future. So they can't be expected to truly comprehend that the effort they put into learning stuff in primary school will pay off down the line, no matter how many times their parents and teachers might tell them this.

Because we were so unimpressed with the quality of our local school, we've home educated our now young-teen daughter since shortly after she started her third year of primary school. There are a few things which she has spent a lot of time on because they interest her, but most of the topics on the curriculum required us to do a bit of pushing. However, it was noticeable how, around the age you started to put some effort into school, she also started to really recognise that there would be long-term benefits if she passed exams, and she's more of a self-starter these days. I think it's just a sign of the increasing emotional maturity that develops as kids go through their teens. (Well, at least for some kids; there are plenty of adults who have never developed the ability to think ahead and deal with BS because they know it will benefit them in the long-run.)

I put not normal because it's not but I think the academeiccwork could really pay off later, sounds like a stellar kid

He's probably gonna do well in school. Often times you can already see what type of person or interests a person will have even from the age of 1 years old.
