Is it normal for clergy to be extremely pushy when it comes to collecting money

They don't provide envelopes and if you try to roll or fold up bills they will unfold them to examine how much you gave, in front of everyone. If it's only a few bucks they give the pan back to you and wait 'til you put in enough, holding up the entire service. Are all churches like this?

Is it an established church of known denomination with an ordained Minister? Or one of these fast buck modern entertainment churches with a pastor with no formal qualification, bands and light shows and singing and dancing etc?

Many modern 'churches' are nothing but some salesman calling himself pastor and out to make a buck. It is about entertainment. That costs money. Not about lessons from the bible.

Find yourself a proper church where it is not about the money and what car you drive and some grinning salesman in a suit and flashy haircut on the stage prancing around with a bible between band acts.

Ask yourself what did Jesus do? He overturned the tables of the money changers and said My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves, and stop making My Father's house a place of business.

Not all churches, no. They're just using shaming tactics to pressure people into giving more money which isn't what church donation collection should be about. It's a private transaction between you and the church and shouldn't go down like that. Find yourself a different church.

That sounds pretty off putting! I wouldn't put up with that. But most of them are pushy in one way or another. That's the reason I stopped going to church actually, cause I don't want my money going to pay off some pedophile victim.
If I were you I'd find a less pushy church.

I dunno, we just quietly pass a basket while the choir sings. If I felt pressured I wouldn't come back. Is your pastor on television by any chance?

Churches exploiting people for their money?!

Nooo... Impossible. That could never happen in real life.

Remember Ken Jennings the Jeopardy! guy? He's a Mormon and they are big on tithing. He commented during the contestant interview that his church had already called to remind him to tithe from his winnings.

God damn I live in the Southern Texas. Never heard of such trash before, that's nearly unbelievable to me. Find a new church buddy, perhaps Baptist or Luthern

Oh, I'm with you. The jews have been forcibly persecuted or cast out of just about every civilization in human history.

Church is about entertainment starring God. Get cheap tickets somewhere else.
