Is it normal for college instructors to remember students almost 2 years later?
If a college instructor taught 40 different students each quarter for 7 quarters, how many would they remember from the first class?

it must be normal, I saw my college math instructor 2 months ago and she still remembered me, even introduced herself and called me by name. I hadn't seen her in 12 years!
If the student is memorable than it makes sense that the student would stand out enough for their teacher to remember them. Two camp consolers (I know its the wrong word!!!!!), the last time I checked, they still remembered me. While others seemed to want to forget me, for whatever reason. (Yes, it hurts... but we (I) must move on and forget them.) The two that remember me do so because to them, I did something courageous and (Oh boy! What's the word?!) Its like "honorable" but its not that word!!!! Ugh! Anyway, I think that they are very proud of me for what I did. Its hard to forget something like that.
It doesn't just have to be doing a good thing that causes one to remember another. It could be that person's personality or even few conversations that might have been shared. I doubt that every student will stand out to a teacher. Not all of the teachers or acquaintances I've met have stood out for me. The ones that stood out the most were either people that I admired or people that I considered to be friends.
Is this an IIN or a Math problem?
I would imagine that some students would stand out (last semester, I had a Philosophy of Science Professor who was a *huge* Trekkie, and I came into her class twice wearing my Star Trek uniform (see profile pic), she tripped out like a little kid. She'll likely remember me), but I doubt that they would remember every student.
