Is it normal for guys to start balding in their 20's?

I'm 22 and I'm starting to lose my hair. I feel really embarrassed and self-conscious. People think I'm already 40 and it doesn't feel good that people think I look old.

Its normal for many people. You gotta wear a hat when you go outside

I think it's relatively common, perhaps more so than in the past. It's been postulated in some cases, that losing hair may be connected to stress and the poisons in the processed foods that those who live in the 1st world consume.
I began to lose my hair at 31 (my dad was completely bald at 22, but that could be attributed to the stress of being a surgeon in WWII) when I found a soap called Dettol from the UK. I've been religiously using it on my scalp ever since and did not lose any more hair, until recently (I'm 69).
    Good luck.

My hair began thinning noticeably in my middle 50's. I felt self conscious, but then I realized that a lot of guys are losing their hair in their 20's already. It's not real noticeable because they always wear a hat, but it IS common, plus so many guys shave their heads nowadays. I came to the conclusion that it's become FASHIONABLE for a man to be bald. I don't have to like baldness on myself, but at least I shouldn't feel bad about it or let it bother me. Sorry about your hair loss, but focus on the people in the public eye who are bald and yet popular and well liked and you will realize it's not as big a deal to others as it is to you. With the right attitude you can help change people's perception of baldness so that MORE people think bald is beautiful!

It's normal if it runs in your family, probably. Don't feel bad, one guy in my high school was half bald (and it wasn't just him shaving his hair off)

You are 22. Losing hair will not make you look old. If people don't like it, fuck em.

It is normal. Go see a doctor and get on Propecia if that makes you feel better - the drug will slow the rate of hair fallout.

I knew a guy who was balding in high school...! But, he was there when they found Saddam Hussein in that hole, so I guess it all worked out for him.

  • Very common. Furthermore, it's not like you know how much hair you're going to lose anyway, or how long it may take.

You might want to see a doctor.
