Is it normal for my friend from a muslim family to be so cagey about it?

My friend is 38 years old, ethnically Indian and Malay, and is from a Muslim family. She does not follow the faith herself. She seems to be very embarrassed of her association with Islam. She's a doctor so it's not like she works with bigoted ignoramuses. I think that she should embrace her heritage even if she doesn't subscribe to the faith herself.

Why should someone embrace a culture just because they were born with it? Perhaps she has made her own decisions about how she likes to live her life and what culture is right for her.

Perhaps you should back off with your racist belief that implies that genetics and culture have to be synonymous.

Being a doctor doesn't mean you don't have to deal with bigots. There are bigots from all walks of life.

  • She sounds like she has a spine. They are raised to conform and embrace the bullshit. Good for her. No doubt her parents will proceed to honour kill her though.

This must be the same person who has numerous posts about the drama with their housemates, has had 6 abortions, and all sorts of other idiotic shit including being mentally ill and not wanting help.

Stop concerning yourself with other people's affairs and get your shit together.

I pegged you as crazy after 1 post, now you're just proving it. Idiotic crazy, not good crazy.

No fucking wonder you have so many "problems", just like I said, you're the main contributor to the issues. No wonder your housemates left. Told ya.

    • WTF are you talking about? I haven't had any abortions and why would anyone confess to being mentally ill, and then not want any help? I don't even know what post you're talking about because I didn't write it. (Could someone refer me to this post so I can read it? It sounds good.) It's the people who won't admit to mental illness that don't want the help. And BTW, there are hundreds of Australians who post on this site. It's not all about the USA. Do you have an antisocial personality disorder?

People shoudn't embrace anything if they don't feel comfortable in doing so! Even if it's your heritage, does it matter? You can't choose your family anyway... But I think the inverse is OK, to embrace a cause that hasn't nothing to do with your blood, since we're all humans living in the same planet...
