Is it normal for my periods to hurt so badly?

So I've been having periods for a long while, but for this past year they've been hell. The pain is so terrible that I can't get out of bed usually. I'll shake, break into cold sweat, vomit, and can't eat without it coming back up. I have to miss my classes and work which puts me behind. Oh, and don't even bring up the obscene amounts of blood. I have to change my twelve hour pad / tampon (yes, both are necessary) every three to four hours. I do take medicine (Pamprin Max) but it's only enough for me to be partially productive. It'll stop the vomit and shaking but I still can't stand up. The only thing that makes my cramps regulated is both regular sexual activity AND medicine, but since my boyfriend is in bootcamp I obviously can't have that.

Do you guys know if it is normal for me to have this much of a struggle? I'm tired of feeling so much pain every month. It's a serious hassle on life in general. I've tried telling doctors, but they don't take it very seriously at all.

You could have pcos ( polycystic ovarian syndrome ) it can cause all those symptoms. go see a gyno and they can do test/ultrasounds to find out.

  • Ya get checked up by a gyno. One of my aunts had heavy bleeding and it turned out to be cancer of the uterus. Had to get the entire thing taken out.

You must be seeing shitty doctors if they're not taking those symptoms seriously: you could well have endometriosis or something else serious. It could be caused by anemia, which is easy to treat with iron tablets and you're likely to end up anemic with such a heavy flow.

You could try having sex with yourself by the way: it's the orgasms which help with menstrual cramps, not having another person there, but I don't know about that being of any help with your abnormally heavy flow.

Find yourself a good gynecologist and have a full checkup: something is definitely not right
