Is it normal for people to assume applying means youll get the job?

There seems to be a lot of people who assume that since you apply for a job you will get it 100% of the time. They have no idea there are other people applying for the same position. So even if you are qualified there might be other candidates who are as well if not more so. So saying "Since you applied you will get the job" and "If you dont get the job you simply never applied" is bullshit. Are people really this dumb to how the job process works? Why are so many people ignorant to how jobs work? Its not like you applying mean no one else is.

I have applied for many jobs I did not get. I would apply for several jobs at the same time. Sometimes you don't get the one you want. But you can buy your own beer and gas money.

A couple of years ago I was looking for a new job. I applied at many different places. Probably around 30 or so. Not a single one got back to me. The only way I ended up getting a job was through networking. I knew a person who knew a person that talked to their boss to get me a job.
