Is it normal for people to be cheap?

To the point where everything you do or buy is dictated by how much it costs. Everyone likes a discount no doubt about that but to the point where it becomes obsessive. I feel if you try to be cheap that it just comes back to you and you aren't really saving money. You are just depriving yourself of the resources that you need. Also, I feel you aren't living life to it's fullest. I feel there is a balance on what you want to spend money on. Am I right?

I also want to add that most people in this world do NOT understand the concept of Value. Most people are drawn to either Low Prices Only, or they are drawn to the most expensive item thinking it is going to be the best quality always.

Both of these can get you in trouble. You will either end up with a bunch of junk, or you will end up broke very fast. Also, just because something is priced high does not mean it is the best quality. So you really have to do your research to determine where to find the best quality.

No, it is not good to be cheap. However, you definitely do not want to waste money. It is best to look for Value. That means getting the best quality for the lowest price. So for example if there are 10 flat screen TVs to choose from and 9 of the 10 are priced at $300 but the tenth one costs twice that ($600) a cheap person might decide to buy one of the less expensive ones. But they could be a mistake because maybe those other 9 tv's are extremely poor quality and not even worth the $300 price tag since they will break within 6 months.

On the other hand maybe that $600 tv is actually a bargain since the quality is more than 20 times better than anything else. And maybe it will last you for a decade. So in this example the highest priced item can still be the best value for the price charged

So in conclusion you want to get the best possible stuff you can find, for the lowest price possible. But do not compromise too much on quality.

I guess it depends on your priorities, doesn't it? Some live their life with no thought of their future and end up with nothing later and others live frugally and have a rich and rewarding retirement.
And then there are those in the middle who find a good balance between the two and get the best of both.
None is wrong or right; to each his/her own.
