Is it normal for people to treta their pets like their children?

Ive seen a few couples that (usually) does not have kids that treat their dog (or dogs) like if they were their children. I fins that really weird. I mean, i do have dogs, but evento though i love them, i treta them like what they are: dogs

I get treating them affectionately. It crosses a line of weirdness to me when you act like the pet can read, understand complex lexicon or have the same level of situational awareness as a human.

Why does a dog need a Christmas card? They're more likely to chew it up, than sit there feeling sentimental that Aunt Karen thought to write to them.

I'm with you: one of my pet hates is people calling their dogs and cats their "furbabies": no, they're cats and dogs & should be treated as such.

I'm very fond of my dog and when I had cats I loved them too, but they were still cats and dogs to me.

I have a pet bear that I ride to the grocery store and stuff. I shouldn't try that with a kid.

Many people bond with their pets and treat them like family.

I can't even vote to be honest..as I guess it would be considered normal because so many people do that nowadays, but so don't find it right. Dogs are much happier and healthier being treated as dogs, because that's what they are. I have a working dog, he is a Jack Russell terrier/Corgi mix..I love him very very much but I of course treat him as a dog.

I think what's weirder here is that it matters to you.

Okay what would be an example of something weird and specific that someone does with theirpet to treat it like a child?

        • A friend of mine and his wife made a birthday party for their dog. It was pretty much like a birthday party for a 2 year old kid, with a cake made for dogs, gifts and decorations
