Is it normal i’m frustrated with our new puppy?

Let me get this straight: I LOVE DOGS. And I was excited to get a new one, but ever since we got him on the first he’s been a real pain in the ass! It’s like he views the whole world as his chew toy, he chews on EVERYTHING, least of which the toys HES SUPPOSED TO CHEW, and most of all MY HANDS!

He’s in the midst of potty training and I’ve lost track of how many times he’s peed in the house. We have to put him in his crate when he does and he makes the most obnoxious whining sound I’ve ever heard! And he keeps trying to hump me and my family members (god I hope he gets fixed soon!)

What’s a really frustrating occurrence, is when my grandma (who can’t hear shit) comes out of her room and pets him and keeps calling him a good boy, when throughout the day he’s just been biting and whining and peeing everywhere (and if you think I’m exaggerating about my grandma not being able to hear shit, she always compliments me on how quiet I make him and how she didn’t hear him all day, when I’ve put him in his crate multiple times that day and he whined so loud you could hear him from outside the house!)

I feel like a parent who keeps asking their kid “why can’t you be more like your brother/sister” since my old dog was so well behaved by comparison. I hope he’ll improve when he gets older, but in all brutal honesty I’m starting to wish we never got him (the worst part is that my sisters really wanted him more than me and they left him to me for most of the day).

If you persevere with proper training techniques then he will get better. It just takes time. Keep being consistent with your reward system for when he gets something right, and make sure he feels loved but is clear on his place in the pack.

I know it's hard potty training a puppy but he will get it eventually. And it's so much better than giving up and having a dog that shits in your house lol.

That’s my biggest fear, that he’ll poop in the house. For some reason he has only pooped outside with my mom and one of my sisters, but no one else. Weird dog lol

That's good that he's only doing it outside, you're already doing better than a lot of people!

Mine used to strictly only poo on grass. Sounds great but I moved to a house with a concrete courtyard and no grass. He flatly refused to pee or poo anywhere on the property, I had to walk him 3 or 4 times a day so he didn't get health problems from holding it all in! Dogs are just weird sometimes

Sounds like you don’t need a puppy because they require alot of training and patience.

You would have been better off with older dog, at least a few years old.

If I ever move into a house with a yard i would probably look for an older or elderly dog to give them love and attention they don’t get cause puppies are “cuter”

Just remember I wasn’t the one who insisted we get a puppy, I was just naive enough to think I was ready for it. Puppies look cute but they can be vicious!

Dogs are stupid. That being said they are also stupidly loyal. Teach the dog, because a dog is still much more intelligent than a baby human.

  • I have always had dogs, when my dogs I have now die (one is nearly 15 the other is around 5 and one past this year at 20!) I am not getting dogs again! It was good when I had time and patients for them. I love my dogs, but I HATE dogs. lazy neighbors that have them barking all hours and let them off leads to shit on my lawn, because of this, the lazy attitude of others, I now hate dogs and see them as stupid flea bags that just run around pissing on shit making horrible noise. Don't buy dogs on a spur of the moment thing, they last a long time and they are very stressful
