Is it normal i am inconsiderate of the neighbors?

I'm a musician and I blast my music all hours of the day. I'm mostly nocturnal and stay up drinking and smoking and have friends over and party in the yard playing instruments and working in the yard, making stuff in the shed and playing games, lighting off fireworks and playing with weapons. I live in my moms basement and was just on the porch a minute ago with a friend smoking a bowl and playing my banjo and she came down and yelled at me for waking her up and said the neighbors will get mad. They never actually complain so I don't really get what the big deal is. Whenever I have my own place I try to live in loud areas because I like to be loud all night too.

Hahaha, I figured this was your story bugsforbreakfast. Comments confirmed it.

Honestly, if I lived there, I'd hate you but then again I'd never live in a loud area anyway.

So, you know that people don't appreciate a lot of excess noise in the middle of the night when they are trying to sleep. And you're probably aware that night-time is when most people actually do sleep because they have to go to work first thing in the morning or have children that get up early. You also seem to understand that not everyone sleeps well at night, that some people are "light" sleepers who are woken easily.
But knowing and understanding those things, you will still be loud and disruptive anyway?

It's wonderful that you make sure you live in a neighborhood which allows you to lead a noisy nocturnal lifestyle. However, when you're visiting your mother in her neighborhood, it would be considerate of her and her neighbors if you were to keep it down. Being noisy at night, knowing that it upsets so many people, just because you want to kind of makes you a selfish jerk. Be kind and respect people's need to sleep.

How would you feel if someone intentionally ruined your sleep every day?
You may be a sound sleeper but you wouldn't sleep through an air-horn or a bucket of water.

Put yourself in their shoes for a moment and try to understand the negativity you bring into the world by ruining so many people's sleeping patterns. The ripple-effect of people being sleep deprived:
Parents so cranky from lack of sleep they abuse their kids.
Bosses who go to work in a bad mood and fire someone who really needed their job.
A construction worker who is so tired he makes a mistake on the job that kills his coworker.
The university student who's too sleep-deprived to do well on an exam and kills themselves after failing it.
The office worker who has a long commute and kills a family in a head-on car accident after falling asleep at the wheel.

I know my examples are extreme, but the point I'm trying to make is that sleep is one of those basic needs people have in order to survive ...and your destroying that for them ...and it has consequences for them.

        • Those seem pretty ridiculous examples. If someone hurts and kills people for those reasons I am the least of their problems.

Stop being so difficult, bugs. Of course my examples were ridiculous, I'm trying to illustrate a point. That point is: sleep-deprived people suck... so stop ruining people's sleep because you're making the world a shittier place.

            • I do things to make it better as well so maybe it evens out. Actually that may be a bad excuse. Perhaps I should go back to living in the rehersal storage.

    • I do and I sleep great. Maybe part of the reason I don't get why people care about noise is I will sleep though anything. I can set several alarm clocks for an important meeting and will sleep through as they go off for hours. I've slept in the band room with my old band and they would play drums right by me and I wouldn't wake up. The last place I lived the neighbors did the same things as me and it was great because we didn't care about each others noise.

That's probably because you've made yourself deaf with all that loud music
