Is it normal i appreciate content/trigger warnings

Howdy, KholatKhult here, I don’t understand the fuss over content warnings or ‘trigger’ warnings, I think they’re a nice little heads-ups.

Movies have had content ratings forever so you know what you’re in for, and it’s pretty common for news or tv to say “the following video may be disturbing”. So why do some folk get super heated about content/trigger warnings today?

If I’m watching a video and it tells me “oh by the way we are about to show you someone getting their head knocked off” I’m 9 times out of 10 going to just skip forward. I use that Does-The-Dog-Die website pretty often so I can skip certain subjects, because I don’t want to see certain things while I’m trying to relax.

I could see why a lot of people working through some trauma may want to avoid certain subjects of discussion for a while, so what’s the big deal?

I agree Kholat, I don’t want to be bombarded with heavy and disturbing content when I’m trying to relax. I find it ironic that some people find trigger warnings triggering.

Yes and no. I think everyone respects that they don't want children seeing violence or sex so they are good in that way.

I personally was glad to see, "suicide" as a warning as I have dealt with that, but am questioning, "smoking." I hypocritically like when my personal values and triggers are identified, but roll my eyes at some of the new things.

They're really important to people like myself who have certain mental illnesses that are triggered by certain things, so i whole heartedly agree. I really don't understand the fuss about them, it helps a lot of people so, and you can easily just ignore them?

I think the people that are getting fussy about it are the same people that think the world is becoming too weak/sensitive while they sit there with their own unacknowledged trauma with the mentality of “rub some dirt in it”

Even as a person who usually ignores it, I appreciate the opportunity to decide. There are times I'm just not in the mood to hear things that are above and beyond what I'm used to from a particular source.

I can see why they’re needed, but some are dumb, just like the some warning signs I see. I was up at Big Sur over a 100 ft cliff and on the railing it says, “Don’t Stand On Railing” and I thought how stupid you’d have to be but I’m sure people have done it.

It’s mostly because some people WANT to stand on the rail I think. Maybe it’s just a good reminder not to?

      No idea honestly

For what it’s worth, I have CPTSD and I have been on both sides of the fence in regards to this.

I’ll keep it simple I guess...I hate it when the dog dies, but I will never look it up to confirm my fears. I’d rather just watch the movie, see what happens to the dog, then decide if I should cry over it or not. There’s a time where I would have, now I just don’t.🤷🏻‍♀️ Dogs die all the time...I love dogs, but it’s not ACTUALLY that big of a deal.😐 I mean it’s a movie...

Its whenever its a stupid warning. Like a black guy runs a redlight and get pulled over by a cop and the warning says "this might be hard for some people of color".

The other day I saw a stupid one on facebook the picture was blurred I clicked on show image and it was just a picture of a gun.
