Is it normal i brush my teeth with bi carb of soda?

Ever since having my braces removed at the age of 15, I've been extremely weary about the hygiene of my teeth. Apparently Bi Carb Of Soda 'whitens' your teeth, so thats why i use it.
Is this normal?

    I remember a guy from college who'd brush with Arm & Hammer baking soda. Right outa the box.

    His name was Harold and he really loved Jesus.

    I did this obsessively as a teenager. Usually 3-4 times a day. I've always had perfect dental hygiene. (flossing, brushing after every meal/ snack, no soft drinks or candy) The problem is that I was brushing way too hard. So now, at 26, I have to have fillings in almost every tooth due to worn enamel.

    I do think it is the best way to clean your teeth.. Just be careful doing it!

    Brushing your teeth isn't really that important. Nobody notices anyway
