Is it normal i can't breathe properly around smoke

First off, I don't smoke myself and I don't have asthma. I'm not sure if this is psychological (because I KNOW it's bad for me) but I get this 'thick' feeling in my throat which I can't describe.

    What? What kind of mammal are you?!?!?! Mammals need smoke to live! Air causes cancer. I don't even let people air in my car with the windows down.

      Lol xD It's just that people don't seem to be bothered with it. I on the other hand want to beat the smoker up. Oh wait, that's not normal.
