Is it normal i cant get my cat to keep his collar on?

I know he does not like it but I worry if there is a disaster I might lose him and not be able find him again. He is an indoor cat and a very good hider. So I am not worried if burglers break in that they will find him since half the time I cant even find him. Even when he is hiding in plain site. I put on his collar before but he always scratches it off so I stopped doing that. Is there anyway to get him to keep it on?

You have to get them gradually used to wearing a collar. Gradually increase the times that they wear the collar until they get used to it. After each session, give them a little treat.

We made the same mistake with my cat when she was still a kitten. We put on a collar that she wasn't used to. Sometime later, she came back down the steps with one of her paws through the collar and the collar was caught on her body in an uncomfortable position. We were all upset!

We had a sneaky cat that we let outside a lot and he ran away a lot. He would come home with his collar missing. It had gotten caught on a tree branch or something, so we got the collars that snap on and made sure there was just enough room for him to slip out of it only if you was desperate. We glued the snap-on part with a gentle, but we could take it off with some force. He never lost another collar, never got caught on anything, and we never had a problem.

You should get him microchipped. Then he won't need a collar.

Make him wear little boots that doesn't go well with his hair color. It will break him on a subconscious level and then he won't care about the collar cramping his style because all the other cats already think he is a joke because of the boots
