Is it normal i delete my own comments and posts?

It's true. I don't know why I do this. It didn't happen when I first joined. Now I write a comment or post, submit it, only to delete it within seconds or minutes because of some unknown urge, maybe annoyance. It doesn't matter if it's one-liners or something that took me a few minutes to write. Surely no one else on is it normal is guilty of this madness?

What i do is similar, I write a whole paragraph, then I read it, change it, remove half and after all that I decide I don't want to comment at all and I close the page.

I don't usually delete my posts but I tend to obsessively edit for the 15 minutes that I have to. Sometimes I ramble too much and sometimes I don't explain enough.

I am also an obsessive editor. Sometimes, I will write and edit using a different editor on my computer until I like the way my comment reads. Only then, will I copy & paste it into IIN.

    • Agreed. Most of the times editing or tinkering takes longer than writing the actual post

Apparently I don't need to delete my posts, it gets done FOR me. I'm not sure what part of it was inappropriate... ? Oh well, I guess.

    • Deleted on here? My story? I didnt delete anything. Unless you were just saying in general

5 ways a comment will not appear
      1) deleted by OP
      2) deleted by poster themself
      3) was reported and hence deleted
      4) included a website and will show up in a long time
      5) poster never really hit submit on their comment

    @Anonymous

I've never been told that I creep someone out. I've been considered strange, odd, peculiar, and weird, but not creepy. I'll be the the first to admit the first 4, but creepy just sounds...bad, but I understand the context of how it was used. No offense taken.

How do you know I'm not really you? Nah, couldn't be. That would have to involve the parallel universe, time/space continuum thing, and as we all know, wormholes are much to unpredictable.

I could use more friends, I've alienated most all my 'real' friends because I feel like a fool sharing all my many, many problems with them. Nobody wants to hear it, and they can't really help me anyway. It sucked to watch them squirm and fidget, and say 'sorry, I don't know what to tell you'.

Why do you think I'm here? I'm guessing...the same reason you are.

I'm not certain there is any room left in my subconscious. Unfortunately, it's filled with demons right now, and I really need them to go away.

I have no intentions do delete or edit my responses. As long as it takes me to find the words, and think long and hard before submitting, I don't see a reason to. I've already had one person relate to me, so why change my style now? I say it as I see it...take it for whatever it's worth to you.

If you see 'ImjustJeff' stop posting, look me up as 'JeffTheBabbler' lol

I once deleted 60+ pages of comments because I got pissed about something and didn't come back for 4 years.

    True story.

You shouldn't do that. People will lose interest to participate, like me for instance. I rarely comment on posts now a days cause i think the post is going to get deleted. It has happened alot lately.

    • Even of your comments do disappear cause the post gets deleted, you should still comment. I've come across your stuff occasionally. All I can remember is you make quality and good-natured comments. So even if 2-3 people read posts before they disappear for whatever reason, it was well worth it :-)

I delete my comments when I think I think I've started rambling or I think I'll say something I don't feel like holding a conversation about. I try to write comments that people won't have too many questions about, unless I actually hold an interest in the subject. So, if I think people are going to drag out an uninteresting subject with me and I can't think of something 'final' to say, I end up deleting the comment.
I almost did that here, three times. Although, one of those times it was because I accidently hit the esc key and lost what I typed up.
Another reason I might delete a comment, which happens a lot, is that I'll drift off into daydreams and lose interest in what I was saying completely.

Thank you for the insight. I have studied your style because I think you, along with two other people, are the best writers we've got.

    • Write comments people won't have questions about? Good luck doing that with me.

Are you the same way IRL?

Ok fine. I don't feel quite as odd now. Some of my replies are superdupercrazylong, and take me forEVER to write and edit them to make even what little sense they do...or don't.

If it's a semi-silly post like this one, I can keep them sorta short. If I can relate to a story that hits close to home and chose to give my opinions...aw shit, that could take me an hour and a half. Considering the "advice" I try to give is sincere, I'd rather take the time to write it right; right? Wright? Rite? IIN to answer sincerely?!

Hell, half the time I have to scroll back up, 'cause I spaced out on what the original question even was.

    • Whoa. Easy there, champ. You creep me out by mimicking my sentiments almost perfectly. I have to confess my first thought upon reading your comment was, "Firstly, do we have any evidence that this isn't me?"

I would ask to be your friend if it weren't for the sacredness of anonymity. So can I be your subconscious instead?

Yup, guilty here, though I don't post them to begin with. I just ramble on,and on, and on, typing and retyping, only to just erase it all before I submit it.

I've already convinced myself I'm a psychopath, and I figure I'd wait a bit, and start slow, before everybody here knows it too.

Not that it really matters, you almost all seem just as twisted as me!

"Surely no one else on IIN is guilty of this madness?"

Actually there are a few users who constantly do this. I won't say who they are, but my email notifications tell me who they are and I always wonderd why they do it.

These "reasons" you speak of, are they a type of cake coated in double fudge with chocolate chips on top and a dollop of chocolate pudding with a side of double chocolate cookies n cream ice cream?

    • Holy shit. You mean to say email notifications tell you who posted? This is like the time when I realized 6 years after having a facebook that people could look up your original post even after you edit it. I would drown in shame right about now but I'm used to embarrassing myself :-)

Technically it's not embarrassing oneself since we all have that mask known as a username. Now seriously, are you going to give me back my taxi fare or what?! You know traveling to other towns is fun. I enjoy seeing all the nice houses, shopping areas, and tourist attractions. But you took that away from me, OP.
