Is it normal i didn’t mind watching graphic content on tv when i was a kid?

I remember being 10 years old very well. I was big into horror, and the scarier and the more violent the better, as far as I was concerned. I remember seeing my first pair of boobs while watching the original Halloween from 1978 on tv (later I’d find out I wasn’t much into breast despite being heterosexual, but I’ve already talked about that).

I’d also heard a lot about how The Exorcist was supposed to be the scariest movie ever, and one day when home alone I found it and watched it on YouTube, and I didn’t find it scary while watching (although that face did gross me out). And I also remember Saw being a popular series at the time, and I found it on tv when I was 10 or 11, and the gory scenes (which surprisingly there weren’t very many) were cut out, and I was disappointed that the movie wasn’t as gory or scary as I was hoping, and thought it didn’t need to be as long as it was.

Nowadays I still sometimes see people say certain movies aren’t ok for kids of that age, and sometimes I regret not having seen them at that time, because I loved proving people wrong about the type of stuff I was ok with.

Of course I don’t think EVERYTHING should be allowed at that age, or sometimes even any age. I definitely would have been disturbed if I saw a snuff film or CP or something of that nature. It still feels weird to me though when people say kids that age shouldn’t know about these things because the kids I knew were all pretty fucked up.

Nothing good comes from being desensitized.
Desensitizing is used to drone people out of their minds so they can be manipulated into situations that harm them.

Gore is supposed to scare you, seeing danger is supposed to scare you, fear keeps you alive and conscious of your surroundings. Humans are more thought driven than instinct, but fear instinct can save you in many situations.

Age restricting situations like violence, sex, and gore, is crucial because that fear instinct is what protects them from making a decision on a situation they aren’t knowledgeable on.

If an adult wanders upon a pig carcass in the woods, they can form a decision about how to interact with it.
Are they hunting a predator? The pig is helpful.
Are they wandering alone? The pig lets them know a predator is in the area and they need to move away.

    For a child it’s simple.
    Dead pig = Scary
Scary = Go find an adult.

A desensitized child might just wander along into the teeth of a predator if that pig didn’t scare them.

Don’t assume things. A kid could logically put together that a predator did it.

There is nothing special about watching graphics contents as a kid. It's nothing but just an early exposure.
