Is it normal i don't care about the israel/palestine debate?
I've tried to read some books about it here and there in order to develop an opinion, but it eventually dawned on me; why the fuck should I care about some intractable conflict happening in the desert way the fuck away from where I am? I can have the most nuance, well-researched opinion on the conflict in the world, and it wouldn't make a lick of difference, because I don't have any control over the situation. Both major parties in the U.S. (where I live) practically bend over ass backwards in favor of Israel, to the point of making BDS illegal and saying that cringe shit that Pelosi said about the lengths the U.S. is going to go to help Israel and how it'll never change because "special relationship" bla bla bla.
It's just another line in the sand that people draw in order to see what side of the fence you're on regarding all other issues, everyone devotes hours of their time to getting the "right" opinion, but nobody can do shit regarding changing the government's position on foreign policy regarding Israel, and nobody cares enough anyway. People will be all "educate yourself!" and get butthurt because you've got the wrong opinion on some foreign shit 1000s of miles away, but they'll flat refuse to get involved and actually help their own communities and the people around them. If I see your ass turn your nose up at the homeless around here but you want to talk about what a "heart-wrenching display of human cruelty bla bla bla" it is that someone doesn't take your opinion on some shit in another country that nobody has any control over around here, you are more than welcome to shut the fuck up and quit having opinions that require you to do more than just signal to others what a bright and ethical person you are.
