Is it normal i don't understand why people major in liberal arts in college

I will never understand why people would major in something like:

History, political science, philosophy, psychology, sociology, anthropology, English/literature, languages, communications, gender studies, art, or music.

It just seems very stupid and waste of time/money.

Because education is never a waste of money and maybe you are the stupid one. There is so much more to life than you seem capable or willing to understand.

      I agree with you.

Education is about a lot more than trying to get the highest paid job.

  • Some people are willing to take the risk to one day do the job that they actually love rather than do the job that pays well. Finding a job with these types of majors is a lot smaller but imagine if nobody was willing to take the risk to study these things.

I am mixed on these. There are some majors, that are "worthless" in that they are extremely hard to find work for. I saw a video on YouTube where in which, one of the main points the man made was to never ever major in a course that had the word "studies" in it because, you could study this in your own time instead of shelving out a shot ton of money that could have gone towards something else.

If english/literature is seen as a waste of time and money then we, as a race are screwed,
And I would kill to study music

It sounds like the Liberal Arts College is not for you.
Is there a College of Narcissism you can attend?

A lot of time people take liberal arts when they are unsure what major they want. A lot of times liberal arts is also suggested to those who are unsure of what major to pursue. I personally really would want to do something that covered psychology, biology and chemistry.

Have you heard of graduate school? Many liberal arts majors prepare students for graduate school which enables them to get satisfying and possibly well paid positions.

So you're saying anyone who isn't good at maths or science shouldn't bother with college/university at all? What do you suggest they do instead? Be tramps? Live off benefits paid for by your taxes?

Or they could become an author? I wouldn't necessarily want to major in gender studies per se but if I did I would want to double major in Sociology as well and then write books. Such a person could also study photography and then travel the world exploring gender roles in different cultures and maybe freelance for National Geographic magazine.
