Is it normal i don't want my kids to go to regular school?

I remember feeling just miserable in high school, got up at 6am, school for 8 hours then 3-7 hours homework AFTER school.

I'm in college now and maybe this sounds weird. I do NOT want my kids to go to regular school like this! I want them to go to some kind of alternative school (I'm not sure of the name of this type of education). I have read about this topic recently. Basically I want my kids to go one of these schools where they have lots of freedom to do what they want, they can learn whatever they want, like art, mechanics, reading, crafts, skills, etc. and not have homework and they can be happy and not treated like robot slaves. I know it's expensive but I want it for my future kids.

It will be several years until I even have kids. Is this a normal thing to think about/plan for the future? And to feel strongly about?

I highly recommend against homeschooling them. I was home-schooled and it has left me isolated from my peers in many ways. In some ways it was good but, in many other ways, it was bad. I like the way you think. Work hard so that you'll be able to afford good schooling for your children.

I went to a montessori school from k-3rd grade and I can tell you that when I transfered to a public school, the principal wanted to hold me back 2 grades because I had learned minimal... I got a math and writing tutor over the summer and barely made it into the fourth grade.

As for the hell hole called "public school", its a battle between torturous school hours and homework loads but the knowledge gained vs. the freedom to choose what to learn and when but not really learning anything.

Secretly i would move to finland because they have exceptional public schools wirh different ways of approaching things like no homework and tests but different studying methods and teaching lesson plans Ect...

If you don't choose the right school your future children may have to face SEVERE hardships when it comes to High School and college/university.

You will be doing your children no favors by making them different than most of their friends. An expensive private school education is one thing, but sending them to an alternative style school like Montessori will only leave them totally unprepared for the real world and 'different' than everybody else.
It's a really bad move, and it will spotlight them for all kinds of abuse from their peers.
If you don't believe me, ask Dweezil or Moon Zappa.

    • Well what else should I do if I want to spare them the suicidal thought-inducing hell of public school?

to paraphrase "extraordinary human ingenuity has been used to eliminate the need for human ingenuity"

            and

"So what advice should one give to a young person? By all means, go to college. In fact, approach college in the spirit of craftsmanship, going deep into liberal arts and sciences. In the summers, learn a manual trade. You’re likely to be less damaged, and quite possibly better paid as an independent tradesman than as a cubicle-dwelling tender of information systems. To heed such advice would require a certain contrarian streak, as it entails rejecting a life course mapped out by others as obligatory and inevitable."

or as i quotes...stick it to the man with talented hands

Yes please dont! Public schools are shitty. 9 of 10 are not going to give you a real education and are just places to get the crap beaten out of you at or better beat the crap out of other kids. I would recommend a private school.

Steiner? It works for some and can be shitty for others. You'd have to make sure the school was good.
