Is it normal i don't want to download an app for work?

I have always made it a point to seperate my work and personal life. I never bring my personal problems into the workplace and I don't discuss work matters with my boss when i'm not on the clock.

I haven't experienced any problems like this before, but my new workplace is telling me I need to download an app on my phone to get access to the paycheck that i'm entitled to, and that I can't set up my direct deposit until I do it. and now they're saying I have to download another app in order to request specific days off, even though i've made sure to give written and verbal notices in advance.

    get a cheap work phone and leave it at work on a charger

    dont do anything else with it

    you dont even need a sim card

    just collect your money with the stupid app over company wifi and put the phone back on the charger till next payday

    Definitely normal, this is something I've been concerned about. I'm trying to become much more privacy conscious when it comes to technology, but there's no telling how dangerous apps like those are for privacy and personal data. They shouldn't be able to force anyone to get an app if they don't want to. If it's necessary for work, then they should at least be obligated to buy you a separate work phone to get it on. For my next job, I'd say I'll bring in an old "dumb" phone to work, just in case they ask me to download an app. I'll then tell them that my phone isn't compatible with the app, so they'd just have to buy me a new phone if the app is necessary for my job, since it's not my responsibility to provide my own work equipment (at least if it's not stated in the employment contract anyway).

    It’s normal you don’t want to. But you have to. I used to have my friend fix my availability on the app Bc I’m a tech-tard.

    How about making a folder on your phone for work apps so you only have to see them when you’re using them?

    This actually makes HR a lot easier to deal with. You don't want to actually talk to those people anyway. My husband had to do this for his work and the app meant he didn't have to deal with a phone tree and hold times only to talk with the bitter HR staff to request a copy of it tax documents.
