I've noticed that opposites definitely attract in a very weird way. The nicest people end up with total assholes (and I don't see how they do it; maybe I'm not the nicest person, but I'd kick their ass to the curb ASAP if they acted like an asshole towards me), people will cheat on their partner with a very obvious huge downgrade in every way, etc. People are just strange.

Honestly, even when it comes to friends, do you ever notice that people tend to look up to and try harder to please the ones who treat them like shit? It's like people are drawn to assholes for some reason.

As far as people dating unattractive people, something about that person attracts them, and everyone is different when it comes to that. Personality can play a huge part in attraction too, though admittedly I'm just as confused as you are when I see someone who can do much better dating someone who has literally nothing going for them, including having a shit personality, wanting to leech off of their partner, being unintelligent and having no common sense, and being ugly from the inside out on top of that. I guess it's low self esteem, the thought that they can't do any better, and settling for someone like that. Either that or they see something in that person the rest of us don't.

  I was told once from a psychologist perspective that the reason people try harder with people who are assholes is because they think that their "love" is worth more because it's harder to obtain. Makes sense if you think about it! I have many times pushed away people who shower me with attention and care because at times its smothering or I cant stand top much "niceness".
  A women who goes for bad guys is because she thinks his love must be worth more due to it being harder to get as opposed to a mr nice guy who shows her care and attention from day one. It's like, we want what we "cant have", so to speak!
  I cant find it in my bones to treat someone like shit as much as I have wanted to test this notion to see if I attract more people wanting my time and affection. I'm gay and wonder if I wasnt such a nice girl, maybe more women would wanna date me. Let's face the act though, those are toxic relationships and they inevitably end in chaos anyways with detrimental consequences.
