Is it normal i get pissed off when other people hum or sing?

I hate when people near me start humming to themselves, or even worse, singing. It makes me want to yell at them!!! Even when I am doing nothing important (it's not "distracting" me), the sound drives me mad!!! Keep it to yourselves, people!

  • That doesn't bother me as much as whistling.

I find people humming and singing to themselves creepy. Especially when others are around... I expect them to pull out an ax any moment.

But just to highlight that there are times when others do enjoy it to the point of contagious....

I was checking out shoes at WalMart and was singing "Red Solo Cup I lift you up..." and then maybe hum the next line. This is when the song had first come out and was a big hit.

I had the aisle to myself so I guess I was fairly loud and I'd sing that line while moving toward a new pair of shoes.

"Red solo cup, I fill you up..."

And just as I'm finishing with "....you up" I notice somebody on the other side of the shoe rack, one aisle over, and without missing a beat he sang

"proceed to party, proceed to party"

I just busted out laughing. That was great.

Hahahahaha. Well that would be me pal. I'm always humming, singing, or whistling. I'm a musician and a singer. Can't help and half the time don't even know I'm doing it.

But ya know what, I agree with you, Nobody should assume that their noise (be it humming or cackle laughing) is enjoyed by everyone around them.

You make a good point and I will try to be more cognizant of it in public. I want have as little a footprint as possible when I'm in public.

    thx

It annoys the hell out of me but only because I live with my brother who does this on a daily basis. He has an obsession with bass. If he's not blasting heavy bass from his stereo system or his portable speakers then he's going to hum his damnest to get a similar effect from his mouth. Enough that I can hear it through the wall between us. In fact, his hums were loud enough to wake me up at 4 AM today. He thinks his hums are "quiet". He's a night owl.

Perhaps you're jealous of these songbirds? It's not their fault that your singing sounds like a cat being dragged through a slow churning wood chipper.
