I cringe whenever I hear some idiot use the term hobo. Homeless, vagabond, vagrant, transient, bum, street person...find another word.

    Hobos are a distinct group! They are not ordinary bums. There's even a National Hobo Convention. If someone IS a hobo they should be called one, but calling non-hobos hobos should be off limits as it would be an insult to real hobos.

    I'm not even really sure what hobo means or why it came about. Why is the etymology of such a recent word unknown? Does it seem scandalous to anyone else that it's just over a hundred years old and nobody knows? There are people *alive* who are a hundred years old.

    I'm alittle racist at times.... But, I can control my hatred... Example: I HATE most black people for the way they speak. But there is a small percentage that I like.

    We have a local hobo gypsie lynching group in our community - usually load up on benzos and scotch and chase them outta town at gun point - it makes me feel like a real man !

    I think people hate the homeless because they`re afraid that they`ll end up the same way. A lot of hostility is down to fear.
